Many of the early 390SEs were registered by the factory as 3495cc capacity not 3905cc, I haven't changed mine (but I do tell the insurance co.)
Surely that should be all of the early ones. As you know the 390SE option was an aftermarket modification with punters having to buy a 350i (£15K?) and then pay for all the modifications (£5K) to make it a 390SE. None were actually built as a 390SE and it wasn't a dodge to avoid type approval whistle

It must have gone up by 1987: according to a price list put up some time back by (I think) MikeB, with full hide, PAS and metallic paint my car would have been a todger shy of £23K.

Still no one guessing at numbers!

Should I start something and see how far we getbiggrin

Just off the top of my head in my short time on here this is what I think I know of:
Mine of course.
Maston.
Smash (if he still has it).
The one in Queensland
The one for sale in Guernsey.
Wedg1e
PK 500
Metallic red one, been for sale in wales for a while.
Early white one, I believe in Classic cars shortly.
Red one that was at BBWF this year, forgive me name escapes at mo but jump in.

That's a starter for TEN, I know of a couple more I think but can't think immediately.

Come on, add to it, lets give it a go, remember they have to be known to still exist!

Zig, Didn't use the wedge owners at the top of the page because not sure how up to date it is.

If you look at http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_missing#!...
it shows some pretty random stuff really including a 10l beast, and something with a mower engine.

This row gives the on road vs SORN figures:

3900cc to 3999cc 135 140

Maybe that's what you're looking for?
Adam, as you said before though, wouldn't this include the 400's? as there where only 100 or so built originally I can't imagine there being a large number 390's left, by the way did any of these built go abroad?

Come on who's going to guess at a figure?smile
No the 400SE's were in a separate section of their own so I think this is the most accurate based on engine size, although if the transplant occurred later I guess it would still count in this bucket. I expect exports would be in the "140" bucket.

Your countup is woefully shy of the 135 - so far!

I think that data is about as vague as any other, don't you. After all didn't they only make 106 390'S? and this includes the 420's etc. I must be missing something also as don't see where this is totally related to wedges! I'm sure I saw something on here not too long ago about the amount of 400's left anyway and that didn't reach 135 did it?

I always understood it to be 103 of which 10% were thought to be 420SEs.
So about 93 cars, let's say 50% attrition rate which means maybe 50 cars left 'somewhere'. In a dozen years on PH I've never heard of a member writing-off or scrapping a 390SE so could be even more than that left.
At one of the early 'Fests there were definitely upwards of half a dozen 390SEs present, I took some pics.. which are also 'somewhere'... but if the most we can muster as a dedicated group is fewer than ten then who knows where the rest are...

With Nige, we are up to 12, I'll mail the rest on the owners page and see if we can get confirmation but fear as said, we will be a way off the truth but it does beg the question - where are they?
I would have though anyone owning one would visit these pages from time to time, where else can you get info and assistance from other than the tvrcc. Would a large enough contingency of wedge owners from the tvrcc not visit these pages enough for it to make such a difference? Which reminds me must sort membership and give it a go.

Not necessarily; not everyone's computer literate even in this day and age (and someone in middle-age 20 years ago might well have a 390 they're not fit enough to drive and have no need to put back on the road... there are any number of possibilities
Some cars might well be owned by people who are mechanically capable and have no need to ask where bits came from or can be sourced - or they have a trusted garage that looks after their car.
I own lots of 'old things' apart from my car and if they break I don't automatically go on the internet looking for a 'user group' for them.
