Well I find out today what the state of my ECU and Jag AFM is from Mark Adams

So far, based just on a quick look as the box was opened

1) Inlet end of the Jag AFM was actually a normal one leaving a large gap for unfiltered air to enter the system, no issues as Mark has a spare I can have
2) Someone has tweaked the AFM spring to release the tension, again easy fix for MA

So fingers crossed anything else is repairable but it does sound as though it was not 100% and certainly was impacting the running / set up of the car

Will keep everyone posted once I've got the low down

Edit to ask = anyone got any views on the best air filter, I'll need to buy a new one so wondering about a K&N cone type or I quite like the ITG foam ones.........which is best???

K&N or Piper X tube filters all day long imho I had the opportunity to test both on the dyno with the 500 Gredge no difference in power etc but the K&N sounds better yes

We had this conversation a year or so a go and i think it was a paper filter that came out on top...However i don't think these are available in a conical design..Just flat.

The K&N is guaranteed for a million miles, Periodical cleaning is essential though to maintain the effectiveness ..Whatever you choose try to get the biggest one you can fit under there...And if you can run a cold air feed pipe from the nosecone to within a few inches of the filter area then thats all good...(Something i need to do as well).

Look forward to hearing the results....Cheers...Ziga

Ok, so it sounds like K&N is the winning vote

I'll need to wait to confirm with MA the OD of the inlet, assuming it will be the same as the outlet on the jag AFM at 78mm

Hi mate...People use all sorts of shyte to clean them but i would only use the recommended cleaner and oil..Its best done of an evening as the filter needs to dry naturally before re-oiling..I think they only need a clean once a year so the kit will do a few applications.

Howlfrauds did it but not sure they do now..Its cheaper on flea...I bought a piper cross cleaning kit but its not as good as the K&N kit...Some say its a waste of money but I'm not risking using anything else!....Ziga

K & N offer two types that fit our cars.

One flows more air than the other.

I once had both specs but not to hand I'm afraid.

I wait til the missus goes out then it goes in the washing machine with washing-up liquid.

To re-oil I put it on the car and run the engine for a minute - it soon dries off - then spray it with WD40. But you can use the official stuff.

Hi Adam, is WD40 as good as, or near as the real stuff?

Cheers.

Well it does for me (actually I use supermarket "Maintenance Spray" - half the price and does the same job).

Not sure WD40 would be the same as the K&N oil/Re-charger...For £8 i wouldn't scrimp and as for drying the filter with the engine running...Not sure water is good for a blower's veins!!...Ziga

My "blower's veins" (sic) do very well thank you for asking.... ;^)

Have you never heard of water injection? The small amount left on the filter is barely a few tablespoons, you will pull more moisture in on a rainy day.

smile..You do make me laugh mate....Water injection is not just water...Are you putting Methanol in there as well?...Which is fine especially for blown motors..I guess fairy liquid and WD40 work just as good....tongue out

Ok the title was clearly miss leading lol

Todays the day should have been........fill you guys in a weeks time lol

Any how.....sit rep

ECU is on the piss. causing intermittent faults from causing lean / rich running, changing the injectors to short openings so it's having a wee rebuild to fix it :-)

when you think it was still on its original seals so never been touched since 1986 you cant moan really especially for a lucas part lol

AFM is being rebuilt using good parts from a broken AFM Mark has on the shelf to make 1 perfect one out of 2 wrong ums

Any how........progress being made woop woop

well its actually been a couple of months!!!!

Thank goodness I was able to lay my hands on a temporary solution with Campbelts AFM & ECU

but we now have lift off bounce

ECU rebuilt and past its 24 hours hot and cold test...............AFM now sorted

So booked my rolling road session tomorrow with Mark Adams at 10.30am here https://www.facebook.com/shropshireautomotiveservi...

Camera and video will be at the ready :-)

So what do we think she will do BHP wise? driving

Any thoughts folks............I am hoping for anything north of 275BHP would be really great (nb she did 293 but that was back in 1993)
