Got about 100 miles under the wedges belt since it passed its MOT on Saturday so I have already started a snagging list. If anyone has some pointers they would be very much appreciated to get me started biggrin

-Charging light came on and volt meter dropped to zero half way through the journey. Alternator is still charging though
-Headlight snagged on sidelight wiring when coming up and popped off the bullet connector (will re-rout the wiring if i can figure out how to remove the headlight hehe
-Dash lights don't work
-Oil pressure gauge doesn't work
-Rev counter sticks and gives odd values
-Speedo doesn't work
-Only one speaker is working for radio
-Windscreen washer pipe came loose and melted onto the exhaust
-Sun visor is stuck in a position so that it is always touching my forehead (now removed)
-Paint is still awful but that is currently in hand biggrin

Is anyone elses snagging list bigger than mine?

On a positive note though it sounds like thunder, pulls well and the new gearbox and clutch feel great.

There's a little knob underneath the head lamp pods to wind them up (make sure battery is disconnected when you reconnect the wiring) easy enough to reach from below.

Dash lights: check if the bulbs are still wiring, they're in a little unit behind the radio.

Who cares about speakers!

Oil pressure sensor is on drivers side of the car, just stand on the side and look down you should see it

Your list is tiny! Are you being completely honest... I'm sure there's more you're not willing to admit lol!

There should be some small holes in the lower valance beneath the pods..I think about three in a row...The wiring is normally laid flat and cable tied through them holes and the slack is minimal just behind the sidelights..The rest sounds pretty normal.... smile ...(Check earths)..

Radio??...Speakers???....Here is my radio...
...wobble

Instrument lights .... The old chestnut! First, on the right hand side of the steering wheel and by your right knee there is a black knob... Its the dimmer switch turn a few times ... Better?

Check all fuses remove and check for secure fitting and continuity .... Any blown?

If not then make yourself a long single core cable with some small croc clips on, open bonnet, connect one end to battery neg - and then looking from underneath the dash and the lights on, connect to the back (case) of some of the instruments you can reach and changes?

If not let us know and we can delve in further yes

Cheers guys thats a great help, there is a suspicious random blue wire coming from the fuse board earth point and into the cabin where it is then connected to nothing, maybe somebody has tried to add that extra earth in the past for the same problem and i just need to reconnect it.

I will have a crack at it later thumbup

The dash lights could be the thermostat near the steering wheel (Rover Sd1 column), they burn out if left in mid position too long.

If you turn it to both ends of the travel then at one of these positions the dash lights should come on fully.

I had a snagging list longer than that when the car was brand spanking, including rear bumper falling off.

Hmmm, what tends to happen is that if you leave the control set 'just off' full-bright, that's when it burns out. At full brightness or at some 'definitely dim' setting it'll be OK. Once the carbon track has burned out then it may work at full-on but won't work anywhere else.
