I know insurance has been done to death but there's now't on the telly so I thought I'd share.

Just had my renewal through from a well known classic insurer. AF! £234!!!!!!!!! For 3000 miles a year, alarmed garage, 1 driver. Occasional commute but no business use. Paid about £160ish last year I think. So why the massive jump? Have these companies never heard of loyalty?

Anyway just had a quick flick on Heritage's online quote system. £164 straight away!

And from reading some of the previous post I think I might be able to improve on that a little with RH now I've had the car for more than a year?

Really not pleased with AF. I called them last year and moaned getting them to drop the price by a few quid. But after being with them for over 5 years with the MX5, Westy and now the Wedge I think it's time we went our separate ways.

That's the moaning done. Beer time :-)

Yes AF
I had a problem with them with my car
They wanted proof of NC discount.
I sent it twice then i get a letter saying
We have cancelled you policy etc etc.
If you ring there contact number from a mobile its about 1 pound a minute.
They sorted it in the end but what hassle .
They were the cheapest to be fair.
It just pays to shop around buddy
However long you have been with a company.

I always find a company's insurance quotes are inflated for the second year, it seems they're relying on people to be blarsay and just continue the cover?

The same is true with my M3 everyday driver....

I always do a search on the comparison site, sometimes your original insurer will give a better quote on there thinking you're "new business"

Stop whinging...smile I pay £480 + an excess of £200 for fully comp classic insurance..Unlimited miles..No garage..No second car..I have an updated agreed value of 5K...Mind you i live in the Lebanon..(South London) which apparently is a high crime area??..Even though i live in the posh part and have only ever known of two incidents in the last 23 years.
I used to pay nearly 2K TPFT for shyte tin top rot boxes so I'm chuffed to bits.... thumbup

You must remember that car insurance depends on area..(A big deciding factor) and how many pay outs they have had to cover that year...Then there are still all the horrible stinking tts who don't insure their cars and drive them on the road...ranting

I tend to look at it by working it out on a weekly basis...For me its just over £9 per week and sometimes i only use her twice a week but thats still cheap for something that makes me smile all day...driving

Classic line did me a very reasonable quote at 160 ish with the mods then AF beat it with 130 ish but I've taken neither up yet as its sorned, my experience with AF is they gave my first year very reasonable then hiked it up the following year, when I phoned them to discuss they said they'd match the other quote so long as I sent photo copied evidence to which I couldn't be bothered so went with cheaper quote at classic line instead, I dare say they would try the same stunt this year if I go with themso I'll probably take it with CL.
I think a big proportion of insurance companies are sharks.

I'm with RH, 3000/year, garaged, comes in at around the £160 mark and that's with free breakdown recovery, not just road side assistance either but get the you home or to your destination.

Classic Line are very good, negotiable on terms and inclusions, and are a boon to the serial track-dayer - I get all my track days covered (own damage only, £1000 excess) for under £100 a year on top of a very reasonable premium.

Never had a decent quote from Flux, Mannings marginally better.

Got back from holiday today and thought it was time to sort out the insurance

AF £234.10
Heritage £164
RH £157.80

So I phoned AF to tell them I wouldn't be renewing just incase it was an auto-renewal as some are.

Yep you guessed it. "oh let me just have another look on the system for you"

£155.53. And the excess is now £50 not £150. Why don't they just do that in the first place? Or even bung 10% on last years quote and send the renewal out. So now I'm paying them even less than I did last year.

I would have gone with RH just out of spite but they wanted a statement from my company car insurers about my two no fault claims this year. I thought if you weren't at fault it didn't matter?

Anyway that's another 12 months sorted. TAX or SORN that is the next question. If I SORN it that gearbox has got to come out to get the rumbling bearing sorted.

I hate it when they drop the price only when they know what the competition is! It basically tells me they're prepared to rip you off until they know they can't. So I always kick them into touch as a matter of principle. The sooner companies like that go out of business the better for life in general!!! Moan over!
