Don't let it put you off - Its a definite improvement over the existing steel bar and makes the belt tension adjustment / belt replacement a very easy job..
Anything for an easy life mate... smile

Gents, mine went in fine with the original spacer provided, apart from me shearing the old bolt when I took the old tensioner off! Fortunately there was another bolt just next to the broken one which also fits. Another job on the future list......

Have you any pics from when you installed it Keith ?? would be interested to see how mine differs as it appears I'm the odd one out so far.

Dom, was so p**sed off with myself for shearing the bolt I didn't savour the moment of installation. I'll get a shot at the weekend and email it across.

Cheers.

I've got one fitted to the 350i. Very nice little mod and works a treat. Well done Mr Quantrill.

If Adam can't supply, the original is still available but of course more costly .

I have one made up "in stock" and can make more easily.

There's another advantage to them - if you want to take the belt off you keep it on the adjusted setting and slip it off the alternator end - then it will go back on and works straight away.

Without sounding as though I am being a numpty....what is the benefit of a rose jointed adjuster?

I would be interested in one of these, just need to measure up to see if it is the same 250mm distance...

It's just way easier to tighten it a little on the opposite thread adjuster bar, rather than trying to pull the alternator against the belt tension, hold a spanner on one side of the nut and a socket wrench on the bolt head, whilst trying to feel for the 1/2" of belt movement.

What's that been - 2 years? ;^)

Yeah the belt tension can be set much more accurately than the old jack handle method.

Also it looks more "blingy" than the lump of pressed steel.

It can be taken off and reinstated quicker.

And - rose joints, innit. They make your car handle better!

Just measured the bar on mine (is off the car currently) from bottom bolt to bottom of adjuster slit is 195mm - 280mm to top of adjuster. Kink in bar is 45mm. Does that fit the criteria for one of your adjusters to fit?

That seems roughly compatible. Is there a mark (or a lack of dirt) on the bar where the alternator bolt usually sits at the top? If you measure from that down to the bottom hole that will give a better confirmation.

I can cut the adjuster bar to suit the middle of the range needed.
