Excellent! Bernd did you notice if the guages in the console were misting up, and has this effect stopped or lessened?

Hi Bernd, thanks for your input. It's interesting to hear that you solved your problem by by-passing the heater; I tried that to no avail on my car. I'm certain that my thermostat is installed correctly but I'm not certain that I don't have a leak somewhere (in my case I suspect the head gaskets) so it does all tie up.

I visit Pierburg in Berlin from time to time, I'll have to give you a shout next time I'm over there!

Hi all,

yes there are two wedges in... not Berlin. The little town in the west of Berlin is called Falkensee and there a two 350i´s.
@Adam
Last few weeks I wondered why the instruments mist up. I never had this before ??? Now I know the reason. Unfortunately my registration expired today for this year but I´m shure that the problem is solved. But there are more problems to solve ;-))
@Martin
If you are in Berlin feel free to send me a message I´d be glad to meet you. If you give me your email I´ll send you my phone number.

Cheers

Bernd

Hi Bernd,

Can you tell me what type Fiesta radiator you used for the heater?

If there are any tiny leaks it could suck air into the system when cooling as the water contracts and will collect at its highest point being the swan neck.
Dunno if my car is original from this part (at least the hoses has been changed, I'm pretty sure), but when I open the engine hood, it pushes the upper rad hose down and turns the swan neck pipe in a way that the swan neck cap stops being the highest point of the system and all the air will not come out. I need to keep the engine hood in kind of halfway to keep the rad upper hose on the correct line to keep the swan neck cap as the highest point to get the system to burp out all the air.

This isn't uncommon. I have jubilee-clipped a small bit of bent aluminium to mine to make it stand higher - it rests on the upper crossmember. You can also cut a bit off the bonnet front "lip" so give clearance and more space for the pipe.

Yeah, otoh I'll probably re-hose the rad at some point for other reasons, so I'm currently too lazy to do anything for this particular "problem" (it's not a real problem, while I know how to deal with it). But it's one thing people might want to look at when removing air from the cooling system, so better make it public smile.
