So do I!!
upon initial investigations it appears that the distributor drive has given up and snapped off, which is not too sad, but Im having a bit of trouble sourcing a new dizzy at the moment.
Should be back on the road soon!
It took 4 hours from initial call to the recovery people until they got me on the back of a lorry, not happy about that!!

My distributor drive gave up when my 390 was still in warranty, the teeth on the camshaft wheel and on the distributor drive both wore so badly that they kept jumping out of register. This happened at my first Zolder and was eventually diagnosed by Tony Abrams so the car had to be trailered home by Ronnie Vink - back to Oostende then by the AA from Dover.
The factory only bothered to change the distributor drive but did install an oil feed to specifically oil these gears. The main reason for the failure was the persistent overcooling of the oil because of the lack of a thermostat on the oil cooler - these gears also drive the oil pump.
A few months later I replaced the camshaft and changed both gears at the same time - no problems since.
So (I hope this isn't bad news) if the gear on the bottom of the dissy has worn out then the one on the camshaft has probably gone as well.

The dizzy on the other hand was the original one I think, albeit refurbed, so I think that it is the weakest link at the moment!

Stu I assume this was in the Tamar not the FHC? If in the FHC then I have a dizzy somewher you can rebuild?
Chris
Hahahahahaha, yes!Chris
The wedge FHC is in a billion powdercoated bits on the new garage carpet, awaiting new bushes and other shiny stuff to arrive.
Following that, itll be put back together and sent for paint and trimming ready for next year!!
You are welcome to come round and have a look while its in bits!

I mean the gear at the front end of the camshaft.Stu
The drive gears are a vulnerable point and a reason why you shouldn't go for high oil pressure all the time, they do wear.
