As it says in the title how much is a good wedge worth ? 350i
The prices on e bay seem to vary from approx £1k upwards.
Ideas please.

There are sprint cars that sell for approx £2800 but the good looking cars that don't seem to sell for approx £4k to a special edition 350se up for £6.5k that didn't sell on e bay or car and classic.

I've a project in mind that has a very good body, chassis could do with some minor touch up work paint only,
it has a rebuilt bottom end new crank, cam, top hat liners etc but the top end needs rebuilding and the whole thing needs putting back together.

I know what the owner wants but what is it realistically worth in your opinions.

What do you think ?

Open question. Depending on the model depends on the price. As they say a cars worth as much as someone is willing to pay.
Good 400se can sell for around £13000 possibly more.
What car you got in mind?

Hi mate...This subject comes and goes all the time on here and in my opinion it is us who need to set the values versus condition, In reality they are all underpriced..
However there is a big divide in the "FOR SALE" dept compared to the "TO BUY" dept...Most of which is an account of years of blood ..Sweat..Swearing..Money..More swearing, More money...A bit more blood and eventually tears!...Which has been applied by some if not all of the previous owners.."Bang for Buck" Wedges are massively underpriced...

Im going to be talking with a friend soon and hopefully we will be setting up a website that will cover as much as possible as far as Wedges go..From rebuilds to values but this will rely heavily on co-operation from everyone and info submitted will be the governing factor...Hopefully we can all decide on "Condition Vs Value"...

FOR INSTANCE

1987 350i S2..Non runner...(Needs a cam)...Outriggers and a general tidy up...4 owners..65,000 miles..Good paint and electrics.... = £1500-1800?

Obviously for someone paying for the work to be done it will out cost the value.

FOR INSTANCE

1987 350i S2..Good reliable car...New cam...Good chassis and outriggers...Paint in good condition...Usual cracks...Good original car...6 owners...75,000 miles...£4500-5K?

Is this a realistic figure?....

We would all like to think our pride and joy is worth 10k + but its only worth what they will pay for it.they are getting less and less as the years go by so prices will rise.i think a lot of us do it for the love of it

I paid just over £4k for mine in January for a tidy, straight and MOT'd 350i. Chassis is solid and there's a full service history. Bodywork and interior from a few yards look good but both really need a fettle to improve them.

I've done over 3,000 fault free miles since January so as far as I'm concerned I'm more than happy with what I paid for a straight and honest 350i. What else can you buy for the same money that has the thrill of a screaming V8, the looks, the fun and the total theatre? I'm not aware of anything to rival the 350i for the same money.

Still loving it...

I'd say you got a bargain!

I have my rare early (but mostly sorted) 280i valued for Insurance at £6k, obviously we all know that insurance values are not a reflection of the "market value" of the car but what it would likely cost to replace it with a similar car. I have been thinking due to my car being on of the first 7 built that I should be increasing this value in the next year or so. Replacing it with another of the first 7 (or at a push first 10?) built would be difficult?

I would say that later (and bigger engined) wedges are worth a little more as a rule of thumb, and things like genuine SEAC's etc much more, but it does depend on condition etc.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I have the opportunity to buy a wedge (Don't want to say too much about it at the moment) that is fairly well known.

The body is fantastic/ chassis needs a touch up in the engine bay, the engine is out but has been partly repaired new liners, crank, rods, balanced new cam kit (Loads spent on it) just needs £500 spending to finish it off then fitting.

That would be all that needed doing. The owner want's £4k for it as it stands so with all the bits it could work out to nearly £5k.

I could offset some of the cost by selling my old wedge approx £1800 according to what some of you are saying.
Just unsure of spending that amount on a car that won't get used that much for a few months.

And I'll raise you.....I'll third that

My thoughts on the topic is the more you use a car the cheaper it becomes.....its the old smiles per miles factor

If any car is tucked away and not used folk get focused on what its cost them.......I bought my 420 at a very good price but I also had to spend a few squid to get it sorted. I've no idea what she is worth and frankly I don't care......every time I take her out the £££'s are forgotten

Especially on the run to the Neil Garner event I was following Bob in his Tamora and he was not hanging around.........but there I was, stuck to his bumper in a car worth significantly less than half the price of the Tam.

Its moments like that when the true value of wedges come out.......they are not slow, sound amazing and quite frankly I think they are great :-)
