New Wedge Progress.

Today, I took the Wedge to the body shop for an assessment. It has been booked for the end of January for a 50% respray. The back end looks to be quite freshly sprayed and in excellent condition, so only the front end will be sprayed along with both sills to an almost perfect colour match to the old/new paint at the rear. New sill plates I have bought will be fitted and new double 2mm coach lines along both sides with new 400SE badges for both sills which I will order next week. Hopefully, this will bring the car to near showroom standard. The front light covers provided by Keith (KKson) have already been fitted as in the photo, but will be removed for the spray work and then reinstated. So there we are. The photo below is the before photo and the after photo will be added once the work is completed.

Great that you are getting those bits painted, it really will be a minter then.
I am still slightly sad seeing someone else post pictures of it but mega pleased it has gone to a great home.

Hi Dave. I know how hard it must be for you seeing your old Wedge. I have had similar experiences in the past when I sold on my previous Wedges, but hey, we have to move on. I am sure you'll buy one you can love and cherish in the future.Great that you are getting those bits painted, it really will be a minter then.

It's booked in for the work at the end of January. My sprayer has promised me a near enough showroom finish. They have done work for me before and I have been very pleased. These boys take pride in their work so I'm hoping the finish will be outstanding and fit for a King, lol. Plus, they are doing the final touches as well, like the graphics, coach lines and the kick plates etc. I will put up a photo once it's all done. All the best.

That is a very good point and one that I have taken into consideration. All of my family want me to have it completely resprayed. After careful consideration and a long chat with the sprayer I have been advised, and so decided that it would be more cost effective to only have the sections that have not been recently sprayed. Reason being, the sections already done are quite fresh and undamaged and so only the question of colour matching becomes an issue. I have been assured that the colour matching will be very good as they have partially sprayed a red TVR for me before with good results. However, yes, there will be a colour difference in the street light at night, as there always is when you partially spray bright red. But, for the saving and a special favour offered to me by the spray shop, I have decided to go for it. (I just won't take it out at night)lol. If the result is not as good as I expect, then in the summer I may go for a complete blow over and dish out the full amount, if that makes sense.Tony. TCB.
Well, the Wedge has finally been called in to the body shop and I'll be driving it there tomorrow. It will have 50% respray and decals, coachlines and new alloy sill plates will be fitted. Fingers crossed, it will look as good close up as it does in the photos now. I don't know how long they will keep it but I hope I will get it back before withdrawl symtoms set in.

Also, can I ask:
My 400 had a SEAC spoiler and the holes left behind have been badly filled and painted () likewise a 5th hole on the offside rear wing (second aerial?)
I've been quoted £250 by a proper TVR place to sort it all out and paint. Would you say this is a fair price?
They also quote £2,500 for a full respray (paintwork is 8/10, considering getting it to 10/10).

These boys are close by and are fully equiped,oven etc. They are friendly,reliable and turn out excellent results. I have used them many times before and have always been pleased both with the finish and the price. They have just finished a full respray on my brothers Rolls which we will collect today and leave my Wedge for them to work on. I will put up pictures of the Rolls so as you can see the quality. Obviously, they have charged a lot more money for the Rolls because of the amount of work involved and quality expected. However, I can tell you that he does a full respray on a TVR, providing there is no damage to repair, for 1K and half respray for half that. On the downside, their timing is not perfect as sometimes they can take longer to finish a job that they expected to finish earlier, or there can be a delay in the start date as mine was scheduled for late Jan eary Feb and it's only going in now. I put that down to the fact that they are very busy and try to please everyone. Other TVR owners from different forums have taken their details from me and used them in the past. I hope that answers all the questions.

It depends to what extent they work to..If you think about the preparation ..Masking up and removing necessary parts like pods bumpers , Spoilers..Then removing lacquer and paint layers..Filling any defects, Rubbing down...Then theres the cost of primer, Paint and lacquer, Use of premises..Electrics/Oven etc and finally flattening back then thats not a bad price.
When i had Delilah i looked into a full respray and i wanted Dark red candy apple with a black pearlescent paint..The paint alone was £900 per litre and they needed 5ltrs...I was quoted 8K...needless to say i never had it done...Lovely paint though...

The spray guy suggested that I leave out the stripes down the side, as without them he says the car looks more modern. My son says the same thing so I'm now considering not putting on any stripes at all even though I have already bought them. He will put the two 400SE decals on both sills, but again I'm considering leaving out the stripes on both sides of those. The two polished alloy kick plates will be put on both door sills as will the black silver light covers(courtesy of KKson). With fresh paintwork on the front half to match the rear, it should look the business. I will put up some pictures when it's all done. Then, it's time to do some posing when the sun begins to shine. I'm looking forward to a scorching hot summer this year, especially around the July BBWF time.
