Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the comments on making more power. I've been out of town for a while including going to the 24hrs of Daytona and didn't receive notice of the answers.
It looks like the first thing I need to do at this point is get new headers. I've welded up the current set but that will be only temporary. If you guys could drive the GBP down a bit so I could get a new set that would be helpful. Also on tap for spring is new motor mounts and mine look to be original and have sagged a bit adding to the header issue. The right side is touching the frame when the engine torques to the side a bit.
We need bigger power over here because we have much bigger roads! Anyway, you can never get enough power. Over here, there are maybe half a dozen wedges with big power and most of those are 280i that have had Ford V8 dropped in.
My 2500 is getting a 302 currently and my classic Mini is getting an R1 so I have a need for speed. Or at least the will to empty my wallet!

Cheers

Just how it should be ....smile

Any documentation on the 302 in to Wedges would be great as i think i have only ever seen one in pics..And a good upgrade for anyone thinking about it...Mind you the 302's are probably a lot cheaper there than they are buying them here..Although i wish i had gone that route instead of try ing to supercharge...Pound for lb it would of made sense...

How come you have a 350i anyway - or do you import if from C&A then send it back each year?

Is there documentation on how to convert to a 302? I have a 1985 with a rusted out 2.8 that would be a candidate.

I'm just trying to get the clutch changed on my '86 and it's proving complicated because I don't have a shop (or a good work/life balance) and can't really dig in myself. Grady

I have a 350i because I sold my Grantura and had a pocket full of money. I figured since I had two other cars (2500 getting a V8 and Mini R1 conversion in process) in various states of disassemble/assembly depending on how you look at it I wanted one that ran!
I looked around over here in the states for a nice TVR in running condition and they all were either in bad condition or very well restored and more costly than the pile of money I had.
I started looking online and ended up buying from a guy in Ireland and imported it over to the US. And being a TVR nut, I'm changing bad parts, changing the color of the interior and having the car repainted during the winter of 15/16. Headers will be the next big purchase.
I did have to order a new top for the car as the rear window was coming out of it when it rolled off the boat.
Other than that I'm good to go.

And the answer to the other comment, my 2500 is getting a 302 which are a dime a dozen over here. It will take me from the stock 109 to 225HP with out modifying the 302. There are guys over here that have nearly 600 hp in there 302's!!
I'm old enough now to know I want to sound mean but not die so 225 will be enough (for now!).

Cheers but my question was really about type approval - I thought the 350i didn't get Federalised and hence wasn't allowed south of the Great Lakes.

R1 Mini in the US!? Can't be many of them over there, is it front wheel drive? Or have you hidden the engine in the boot? "I'll just put the shopping in the boot..... Oh!"

Hi Adam, was reading some past threads and saw this was unanswered. For Canada you are right we had some imported new, and once any car reaches 15 years old we can bring them in. For the USA they have similar rules, but never got the 350i new. The one difference with the US rule is they need to wait until a car reaches 25 years old, then it is free to enter.
