Mines different. It's got a large hex head about 35mm across the flats. I use a large adjustable to remove it.

That looks to be about 18tpi to me - or something like 1.5mm if Metric.

I will be removing mine shortly for an oil change so I'll take some similar (but oily) pictures and post them up for comparison.

Well just to complicate matters, I've measured my old sump plug (replaced a few years back with an allen headed circular magnetic version) and it's approx. 0.82" diameter, 19/20 tpi and takes a 1 1/8" socket on the head. Despite looking in my Zeus book, I cant match those dimensions, so not much help really, other than its different to the one in your picture. Even though this is from a different capacity engine (maybe different capacity sump as well) is it likely that the plug size would have changed?

There does seem to be a big difference between the one i have bought and one from Grimmers...Im wondering if its because its magnetic..Im not too bothered about the bolt head size but obviously the thread needs to be right..And i don't mean ..."Right said Fred"...tongue out

Tell them if it doesn't fit you'll send it back sharpish. If it does fit, let me know and I'll get one too.biggrin You can always put back the original if it doesn't fit. After all, the engine has lasted ok without it all these years, I'm sure it'll last another oil change until you source the right one.

Glug glug glug - the black stuff is coming out at last!

Sorry for the delay, here it is:

Looks like 16tpi to me? Those graduations being 1/4", 1/8", 1/16", 1/32".

I'm doing mine cold today which means leaving it quite a while to drain completely.

What was the size of socket you used to undo the nut? I always use a large adjustable, but would be nice to know the correct size as I could always buy the socket to add to my socket set. It's definitely over an inch and my socket set, though quite a big set, doesn't stretch that far.

Mark, if there is any doubt about the thread type / size, hold the old and new parts together and see if the threads engage with each other neatly - looking against a light helps to see if they do.

While you stick something else into the sump hole to stop the oil coming out!

Yes 1+1/8" or I tried my metric ones in my new socket set off Daghenham Market and a 30mm was too big, but if you have hex as opposed to 12-point that won't matter. Probably 29mm or 28mm would be closer.

My gunge is still dripping out - the downside of doing it cold - so refill time is an hour away I reckon. I squirted some fresh oil down the remote housing holes to help flush out the old stuff - another tip.

Thanks for the input..
Adam that looks the same size thread as i have...The pitch may be the same although a stubbier thread...
Paul..I will match them up but essentially i will try it and if it doesn't fit then i will re-fit the old one with the new washer...Cheers...Ziga

29mm fits nicely, 28mm is too small.

I noted that you have a copper seal on the plug. I don't, but my plug (and the sump, I hope) is coned so it keeps the oil in without any problems. I guess there is some variation.
