Hi Peeps...Well i knew that the day would come when the rad would finally start to leak and today was that day..

Its coming from the lower rad outlet so it must of cracked around the weld...

Mine is the type with the locating lugs at the end of the rad instead of 5 or so inches in from the ends...I believe it to be a classic range rover with non-AC...I can get them new but they want nearly £400, Re-coring it is £250 + VAT..Im thinking of getting the one with the pins set in from the end as they are only £100 and retro fitting it..It just means that a supporting bracket will need to be made from stainless steel for the locating lugs to sit in...

Also..I know i have asked this before..Are the top and bottom hoses range rover?...

Cheers.....Ziga

Mark, not sure about the hoses, as the last one I bought was from Tim at ACT. Are you sure that its not just a split hose or loose clip? Taking the rad out is a pain if not actually needed - not to mention cost fixing. Mines got the supports on little brackets attached to the rad, at the extremities. I'd replace like for like if you have to. The rad should not be held too rigidly either, top avoid twisting and ultimately damaging it. I've also supported mine on some small rubber bushes.

Hi Paul...Unfortunately looking through the gap in the front of the bonnet i could see steam coming out from either the bottom of the rad or from the outlet where it joins the rad...I might get some leak fix if it is the outlet for a temporary fix..I have just emailed Douglas valley to see if they have one....PITA for sure.....

I have found a range rover V8 rad with the lugs set in from the edge which means making a holding bracket which TBH wouldn't be that difficult....Just waiting on the measurements...Only £130 delivered....

Douglas valley are very expensive zig, I have tried them in the past and almost choked when quoted a price. The rad is classic rover/range rover and so are hoses. I had mine done must be 6 years ago now and is still fine but only cost me £120 but as I say was about 6 years ago.

Hi Jon...Yeah i know but for a classic range rover rad non-AC its around £400...I have found one with the lugs in a different place and its only £130..Big difference over something so trivial..I have a company that i have used before for re-coring rads but they want £295 + Vat..Mine looks similar to the Griff rads but not sure of the sizes..I have emailed DV and have appealed to their better nature in hope they understand the plight of a skint man....At this rate Poppy will become spares...frown

£200 do ya? http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/ff_part?part...

Or possibly http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/ff_part?part... - nearer £300.

Lastly try Berkshire Radiators who charged £185 (eek!) for re-coring an SDi (or wedge) radiator. But that was in 2010.

I had mine recored by dragon radiators in Swansea last year for £192 inc vat. The wedge rad uses a standard range rover core. Rad was refurbished as new.

Mark,

I'm sure we can make up a frame to enable you to fit the cheaper rad. Before spending any money perhaps we should have a chat.

I would check the flexibility of the hoses to ensure they are not putting a strain on the new rad, just a thought.

Thanks for the help & Advice...It looks like it might be the bottom corner of the rad..Im going out there in a while to have a closer look.

I think it not being rubber mounted doesn't help although it certainly looks like the original rad which has lasted 27 years...Hopefully i have found a direct replacement and cheap as chips..I will probably get some silicone hose .. 2 x 90 degree.. 1 x Straight joiner..I have a spare upright joiner which i was going to fit a fan switch into..Although I'm sure it should go the "Hot" side of the rad which is the swan neck side..I think...

Silicone hose is much more flexible which should avoid any stresses on the fittings and i will also rubber mount it...Fingers...Arms...Legs and eyes crossed...Cheers...Ziga

Oh nearly forgot...The replacement one is missing the bleed screw, Is this the same as the otter switch?.....

I would think that any local radiator reconditioner should be able to do something for you Zig, the last radiator I had reconditioned was for a 4 cylinder Ford, about £100 as I recall.

Don't mention the word "TVR" to avoid the potential price hike. It's for a kitcar smile

Hi mate...The last time i used my local rad people they refurbed my 280i rad..And knowing it was for a TVR although they knew it was Ford Granada so they know their stuff ..I have also recommended them to loads of people...They charged me £160 and widened it for me to 3 core and when the overflow outlet decided to receive itself of solder they re-soldered it FOC...But...For the 350i...Or as also listed Range Rover "Classic" its nearer £300 + Vat..

Came back lovely.

They do a lot of the TVR dealers ones apparently as when I took the wedge one in he said 'ah,that looks like a TVR rad!'
