Removed the fuel filter and whilst it was off the mounting bracket, decided to rub down and paint the bracket to remove surface rust and loose paint, then i thought why stop there, so decided to rub down and paint the chassis tube that the bracket is welded to, then i though why stop there and decided to inspect the fuel line going into the sill, then i thought why stop there.....

The good news is the tube is decent nick with only surface rust, so a good couple of hours should see it good enough to treat and paint.

Now then, is it recommended to change the copper fuel pipe while i am this far in? if so - st/st, copper, or flexi all through? I will be changing the return pipe also but this will be a pain as it is flexi running full length, right to the n/side tank.

Blimey Stevo...Don't change the spark plugs or you will be rebuilding the engine...eek..On mine the copper at the bulkhead is the fuel return ..I would of thought it would be the feed?..Ziga

Mark, I blame the wife for going to the supermarket which meant i could go in the garage and finish off - or so i thoughtsmile

The copper pipe is definitely the feed as there is a short flexi at the rear that connects to the fuel filter outlet and i have traced the return all the way back. I'll definitely be changing both but just wondered what is best?

Ran mine down the offside sill tucked inside, then up the front wheel arch protected by a metal plate and into the engine bay coz the state of the relatively new high pressure fuel pipe put in four years or so previously frightened the st out of me as it had form to the contours of its route already from the heat in the transmission tunnel.

Is it definitely the saej30R9 I should be replacing with or is the R6 suitable?

Anyone know where I can get the correct st/st pipe as an option?

Also is there any detriment to running both lengths in the sill, in either the st/st or in the flexi hose.

Sorry for questions but want to try and get whatever the choice is to complete the work at weekend.
Thanks.

Ive used Cunifer on the Taimar, for both the feed and return.

This means using the very minimum of flexible fuel hose at both ends, and means when they perish its easy to change out.

Ill also be doing the Wedge in cunifer very soon, again, both feed and return, as it will never perish etc etc.

Stu, does this stuff not have the so called issues associated with ethanol, as some of the posts I have read on standard copper pipe? or are these stories exaggerated, as the copper that is presently on has lasted the 27 years to date.

The copper will be fine. I used cunifer too on the 350i but only because the long runs are rubber.

I think I'll measure up tonight and get some conifer and J30 R9 on order, might as well do it right now I've plunged in.

Cheers.
