1st. Glad you're ok.
2nd. I feel for you. The stress of getting the Gredge fixed following the idiot last September and now this. I hope they were insured.

A truly sorry state for the Gredge to be left in. I'll mail you later once the dust has settled about future plans.

Sorry to hear about the prang Chris even better though that you're not injured. At first glance the damage does look repairable - new bumpers front and rear etc. The chassis isn't bent either or is it? So please don't give up on getting the car roadworthy again not after the investment of the engine and the other mods that make your car unique in Wedgedom.

Bu99er. It's bad enough when you crash a car through an excess of enthusiasm over ability, but when some gormless tosser does it for you out of incompetence it's far worse.
I've only ever had one bike crash in my life, and that was some young berk driving into the back of me at a pedestrian crossing, which he must have known the existence of as he lived nearby.

On the (dimly-lit) bright side you're OK, plastic and metal can be replaced.

That's very unfortunate to have been on the same bit of road as that fking knob jocky, feel sorry for you Chris and that I may never get to see your car close up and personal to compare notes, wait and see what the insurers say, you may get the chance to buy it back, depends on the chassis I suppose.
Hope the little prat gets whats coming, probably thinks its upped his street cred, clean him out for whiplash.

Chris, if it is written off do you get to keep the wreck or do you have to buy it from the insurer? If the first, then you might stand a chance of repairing/relicensing at a reasonable cost.

Chris, very sad to learn of the accident. I've seen your car many times in photographs and know that it was regarded as one of the best. Obviuosly your health and well being take presidence over everything else and I am glad to hear you are ok. Whatever happens to the car in the future I hope everything works out in your favor.

All the best.

Gavin.

Thanks Wyn I will see what my options are once the red mist has cleared. Its a long way for me as I am based in Kent but thnks for the info. As mentioned my guess it will be a financial write off as the guaranteed value is £6K so anything over 50-60% of value is a write off for the insurance company. Although the rear bumper, front bumper and valance can be replaced via TET parts the labour and paint will be significant I am guessing. I think the chassis is ok but the two things that concern me at the moment is that the main tub between the rear lights looks like its moved as the boot does not loock now and the complete tub seems to have shifted on the chassis so I am expecting the worse. Just put the car away as I cannot bear to look at it at the moment.

Chris firstly glad you are OK - these cars are pretty strong but I'm sure you must have been shook up.

Seconds I take it you have the other driver's details and their insurance? And they will be taking liability 100%?

When something similar happened to me their insurers (I think it was NU/Aviva) sorted everything out. You should not be in the position of being disadvantaged here. Don't even think about a write-off - the car is your property and if you take a financial settlement from the other insurers for the full £6k minus a little for salvage then you can retain title and have it fixed yourself.

I had good service from Hilton in Bishop's Stortford and they rebuilt the rear end on one side and did a good paint job. No cracks have re-appeared in the three years since. Expensive mind, I think about £2500. But if someone else is paying you want a good job doing.

I hope I'm wrong here but wouldn't the car in front claim from Chris, saying he ran into the back of him (which, technically, he did).

Remember the incident last year when a neighbours wall fell on a freshly resprayed wedge , the guy was saying it would be written off due to the surface damage! Just didn't sound correct.

Clean the little tw@t out mate...

1. Whiplash..Your a doctor so you know what you are talking about.
2. Loss of earnings.
3. Shock and trauma.

Personally i would of called the police and had him arrested for driving with undue car and attention...I bet he was stoned as well!...Who are these dicks who say how much a one off rare hand built classic British sports car is worth??

The Gredge is worth more than 6K mate...I would of said 8-9K....Anyway thats irrelevant as the car was immaculate before this st bag smashed in to you...He needs to be taught a very tough lesson which will get passed along to his chav mates which will make them think a bit more about what they are doing.

He needs to never be able to afford to drive again..Or at least until he is in his 40's....

I know insurance companies want to dispute every little thing but at the end of the day his insurers covered him to drive which means they are responsible irrelevant of cost...If it had been worst then they would be paying out to your family for a hell of a lot more money thats for sure..They act as if they have no money...They have millions....Dont let them get away with it mate...Please...Ziga

We all get angry when someone carelessly damages our property, especialy something we love. Claiming on the insurance though, won't teach him a lesson, it'll just put every other drivers premium up in the country. Insurance companies are always a winner. Having said that, you should claim for what is rightfully yours. You've suffered damage to your vehicle, you've suffered physically, emotionally and you shouldn't have to suffer financially too, espacially for something that wasn't your fault.

Tecnically, yes they would. The value of the claim would be added to Chris' claim against the car behind.

Yes but then surely Chris will be held partly at fault?

The method of accountancy employed by the Insurers doesn't dictate the aportionment of blame.

On the information provided, I would expect blame to be aportioned to the Focus driver at the rear.
