What is too much?

When I have got the fuel pipes replaced and the sill back on, I want to get the back end of the car re-sprayed, as some of you may remember, when I bought it I had the front done but its not a perfect match and the pin strip is in the wrong position.

Anyway; the wife says I am spending too much on the car! both time and money wink

Can you spend too much?

scratchchin...I spent 9K on the 280i and that didn't even get an interior or respray....(Pursuit of power)..I have only spent around 3.5K on the 350i and probably could do with that again..You can only spend what you can afford..Im a little bit skint lately so I'm limited to what i can do..

Perhaps buy the missus a new kitchen or take her somewhere special, Then she won't feel so left out... You don't want to be given ultimatum's....However you need to concentrate on what brings you the most happiness...Look forward to the respray post...biggrin

That is why it's best to stay single. Why make one woman unhappy 'by spending too much' when you can make so many others happy by 'spending even more'.

My wife says a lot of things but luckily I suffer from selective hearing. I can only hear the things I want to hear and 'spending too much' on the Wedge isn't one of them.

Tell her 'Spending too much' is hairdressers, nail extensions, tanning, eating out, holidays etc.

THIS /\

Bribery works for me.....its usually a nice meal and a new handbag to keep the peace

Don't forget to remind your good lady classic cars are "investments".....it would cost more for a membership at a swanky golf club each year with some shiny bats plus you'd have folks called Hugo or Tarquin popping round for a game of badminton........safe bet to leave you alone with the greasy car :-)

Ok, you lads obviously need advice on this topic from someone who really understands what it means to wrangle over how much is too much - ie a Griff owner hehe

For every argument I came up with (including 'its cheaper than golf etc') my wife nailed me with an instantaneous and logical argument - 'so are hookers and crack but you're not spending our cash on those either...'

It was only when we ventured into the territory of why a middle aged, overweight (yet powerfully built) bloke wants a noisy open top british sports car and then spends all his disposable income on making it noisier and faster did we make progress. The reason you own a TVR is not the reason she thinks - its the opposite - nothing in this life will make you less attractive to the average single woman than driving a TVR... You want to spend money on it because you are a man and your TVR is the only thing in this sanitised, politically correct, sustainable, ethically sourced world that is yours to do with as you want...

Simples!

Top tip - if you do buy the Wedge any goodies on line then get the parts delivered to the office - that way it's less obvious. Works a treat!

Then take the secretary for a ride when you've finished.

Hmm, the tips were going OK up to that point Tony - have you seen the secretary?

Too much?

I have a lot more money than I want to know in my 350i and my Griffith. With that said, in the same time period my wife has worn out two Jaguar XK8s, had a new Clubman for a bit, is still in a black XJR, and is asking for another toy, perhaps an Elise, a DB7 or a 420 (or bigger) wedge.

It is all about balance.

...Oh, and she did buy two pairs of shoes this week.

The happy balance in my house............is currently new carpet.

Fortunately my wife is very supportive and is totally not a car person. she actually encouraged me to buy the TVR. All work and no play etc.....

Nursy out-earns me threefold, plus she actually likes the TVR so no issues for me biggrin

Any woman who wanted to try and tell me how to spend my own money would sharp be looking for someone else to nag.
