Well thought it was going to be good news on the MOT front until Mr Tester did his last check - the rear wheel bearings and found a fair bit of play in the rear near side one (almost 3/4"!). I'm presuming on the 350i it's just the standard XJ6 one? Time is short at the moment so I've left it with the garage to sort out but they just wanted to check it is indeed a standard XJ unit. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

Rear wheel bearings are mk2 granada, ml performance or rt should have them along with the correct seals. Avoid the ebay rubbish I fitted one and I'm changing it again after less than 3000 miles.

BTW it's not the outer uj is it?

Okay thanks for that. I was under the car when he wriggled it and it certainly appeared to be movement within the bearing. The hub stayed where it was and the outer edge of the wheel moved a good 3/4". I might order a bearing and a UJ just in case though.

All ordered up through RT and bits to be posted direct to my friendly local garage. Good news is that suspension, brakes and chassis all in tip top condition.

A failure is never a nice thing, but from the sounds of it, just as well the play in the bearing was picked up when it was. Did you get it tested in Lemner ?
We'll have to have a blast out somewhere soon, keep in touch.

Might sound obvious, but is the hub nut done up to the correct torque and pinned? They have been known to loosen off.

This is what i was going to say...It felt like play as you would get with a wheel bearing but my hub nut was hand tight...eek

Everyone who uses their Wedge all year round should check theirs as well...Especially the N/s.....

New bearing fitted and new MOT issued. Very happy. Time for a country lane spin tonight I think.

There was something odd happening last night on PH some of the pages were coming back from the year 2000...

it seems to be back to normal now.

Yes very strange...When i saw the post i didn't pay much attention to the date...Perhaps a Wedge owner who uses his for work lives opposite one of the mods houses and always wakes them up in the early hours and its there to make a subtle point?....smile

Just showing my"Could be" skills...I always find it funny how people try to explain stuff away that has no explanation.....

Example:

I took these pictures while it was happening, I was actually talking to someone on here at the time....

This is NOT a vapour trail that has distorted with wind as that is just as impossible.

The commercial jet went passed a few seconds after and as you can see the trail has not changed a bit and if it was that windy it would of!

I managed to zoom in as much as i could as this was a lot higher than it actually looks...Especially if you compare it to the jet at 30,000 feet.

There seemed to be three trails in sync...I then caught three silver orbs at the front of it...

I then caught this a day later...I thought i could see a tail which would signify a plane but the vapour trails are "Over and under" and not "Side by side"...

Cloud formation containing water or is it a portal to another dimension...Or even a UFO in cloaking mode?..

Mind you even tw@ts fly planes....

Triangle cloud or cloaked mothership?

There seems to be loads of strange activity over my flat...Perhaps aliens are flying over because they think they can see a crashed one of theirs...

.....hehe

It works both ways you know....

Cheers...Ziga
