Does anyone know of this car, a 1981 red Tasmin coupe 280i. For sale on eBay in Lowestoft. Owner has only had it 6 months, but seems to have a genuine reason for sale. Regards phil

Looks a tidy car....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/tvr-tasmin-limited-editi...
The ad sounds honest and he is pointing out the normal Wedge bits that other people might snear at...Good price and a tidy engine bay..Check the chassis but most..Not all of the early chassis are still good today...

Not as bad as some but the bling-up brigade have been at it: the wheels are probably original (might be pushing it on an '81 car though), if not at least they're the right type.
The front bumper looks to be the early ribbed type but wears either the later Renault 12 indicator/ sidelights or a good approximation of them; either way they don't fill the recesses.
Similarly the rear lights are not original type.
The fan looks better than the original thermostatic, not a bad thing and the coolant header looks to have been replaced (not with the original type, however we all know how prone they are to splitting).
Least said about the cabin decoration, the better rolleyes - at least all the bits are there if you wanted to reinstate the wood finish. At least he's kept the original seats.

ETA: doh! Clicked Submit before I'd finished picking fault whistle...
Looks like the rear glass panel has gone; someone's been busy painting the few chrome bits (or have gone to some lengths to find black replacements).

Could be a good deal if it's to your taste.

Thanks for the info.
As the car has had 10 owners, and current owner has only had for 6 months together with the short MOT and no service history, will leave for now.
Regards Phil

To be fair, you'd be doing well to find any quarter-century-old car that hasn't had a few owners. I'm the 10th owner of my '87 390 and I've had it 15 years!

Really??! Have a look at it if it floats your boat.

My Tuscan has had 9 owners....shall I throw that in the bin?? wink

Seriously though, these cars do often have high turnover because the dream isn't quite the same as reality.

Looking through the history on my Tuscan, each owner had it a year then went into a service with repairs totaling thousands! I bet their wives told them all to get shot pronto and hence the high numbers! There really are some eye watering bills in that history.

My wedge. .I'm on my third book now of receipts (I use those display folders) and still going strong wink

Seems that the listing has ended as "the item is broken or lost"

It is more the fact the current owner has only had the car for 6 months and the short mot, than 10 owner's that put me off viewing the car which is 100 miles away. Owner unwilling to put a years mot on it. Listing ended after I contacted seller to say I was not coming over this morning.

Even without big bills there seems to be a constant trickle of money going into these cars: I have receipts and history files for my car going back to when it was about 4 years old and it totals over £23,000. Who knows what was spent in the first 4 years.
To be fair, one owner in particular ran it as his company car and there really was no expense spared - the most expensive tyres, new hood, respray, suspension re-bush, you name it. The guy before me paid for most of the bling and toys (painted rocker covers, new steering wheel, Clifford alarm, CD stereo, Kenlowe thermostat etc.) and I've spent 15 years systematically replacing things that wear out despite hardly being used rolleyes
yikes Fifteen years! That's longer than a footballer's girlfriend!

Ended up buying a 2005 saab convertible. Missing the wind in the hair experience after trading in my chimera for a cerbera late last year.
