Hi all,

Just went to have a look at a Taimar which is needed a bit too much work for me but seen a rather interesting 350i 2+2 coupe as well, mid-eighties something, right-hand drive.

What would be the reasonable price for a car like this. Need to inspect in full, but for arguments sake, let's say chassis is rust-free and car drives + all electrics work, but paintwork and interior in poor condition, and needs some general TLC which it hasn't had in a long time. Been in storage for years so might need some new springs and a general checkup as well.

Looking for an honest drivers car, and could see the potential in this, however not sure what's "fair" ...

Grts, Pieter

Only you can decide what's 'fair', if it's been laid up for a long time it may well need rather more than springs (coolant hoses, suspension bushes etc.). Maybe a couple of thousand Sterling as a starting point?

Well, I can only decide what's fair if I have an idea what it's worth ;-)

Would be priced at 4000 EUR which is around 2900 GBP. Realistically would need some money spent right away on suspension & bushes I guess, has been sitting idle for too long.

The key to the wedge is the condition of the chassis, if it's rotten you may end up with considerable time and a body off restoration. If it's sound, the rest is quite simple and easy to work on so base you price on what you think the car is worth less the work that needs doing..

Hi Mark,

I went with Pieter (the OP) to view the cars today, the FHC is maroon, but don't remember the reg (it is still on its english reg) It has stood for some years, but chassis, brakes and suspension look fairly recent. Engine is not seized.
Pieter wants a get in and drive car, without to much of a hassle, which this car does not provide I'm afraid (electrics and fuel tanks to name a few, are cack) OP has no opportunity/space to rectify which is complicating matters

Frank

edited to say, its a '85, no 2+2 in that year ?

Hello,

Licence plate is probably B535 GLM. (1984)
The car is for sale in the Netherlands.
The car has long been for sale on a British sales site whithout price or pictures.

It takes a lot of time and tlc to get such a car back on the road.

A good guide: "The Wedge bible" Steve Heath. You need to read this before you decide to buy a wedge!!

Hi Stef,

Yes that's the registration indeed. Looked like it needed a lot of TLC indeed, but not that much work to get it running & roadworthy. Don't mind driving a car that looks a bit wonky if it has a solid base. But obviously you know this car :-)

You will spend more on it than you will get back when you sell it, so what it is "worth" is subjective. If you buy the car you are a custodian rather than an owner. If it is as rare as stated then its a piece of history and needs to be restored. That means its a heart rather than a head buy. Have fun.

it is a rare one, I believe that this one has a plaque on the dash as well, but I may be wrong!!
there were only 6 made, I own the light blue one, Ralph from the TVRCC owns the green one as does Stainless Steve a white one (not sure if this is the original colour), there is a red one in Scotland somewhere and the dark red one you speak of in dutchland!

Mine is currently in pieces having a full mechanical, electrical and bodywork refurb, and to be honest, when it was taken apart there really was very little wrong with it apart form the outriggers being shot.

Im led to believe that the one you are looking at will definitely need chassis work as its been sat for a long while, but as has been mentioned, being one of only 6 made, it really is rarer than the fabled SEAC, 450/420/390/350 se variants, in fact, numbers wise, only the white elephant and the 2 turbos are rarer!!

feel free to message me on my profile if you want any more info.

It's not advertised ... And I kinda want it for myself provided the chassis doesn't need work in the near future. However if it's not in the condition I'm after, I'll gladly send you the details.
