just looking at that silver wedge on ebay.....as you do......and noticed it does not have any external boot hinges

thought it was just the late ones that had them flush

Maybe an early attempt to use the flush ones? They probably tried it on a few cars first to see if the owners reported any problems.

It's not a later car wearing an earlier plate... someone with the initials JHG, perhaps?

Ideally I,m after something just like this a 350i series 2 but has to be 30 years old if anybody hears of somebody selling something similar.

Recently seen a seac with internal hinges (you might know the one, wooden boot stay).Packing the boot then putting the roof on top might be a problem.

Indeed, my '86 SEAC has internal hinges - it has a metal bar glassed in under the rear deck and the hinges curve under the lip. As Jim says, bad idea as you can't get the roof in horizontally.

I say curve - this being a TVR it's made up of straight bits welded together. I guess it's another of those ideas that TVR tried for a while then gave up on.

Any way this internal hinge could be re-engineered so that the roof would fit in the boot?

Yes.

My 400SX has internal hinges and the roof goes in the boot flat.

Hi Adam,

I take it your hinges are somewhat different to those Micky Mouse ones displayed above.

A photo or two would be nice when you get a minute.

Tnx

The problem with the boot on the SEAC that it is smaller than one on a SE or a like, as its shorter in the nose and rear by a few inches the boot opening is less.
On my SEAC the roof top just fits in flat and that the hole of the top of the boot filled but I have external hinges.

I believe I'm right in saying that the 400SE has a similar boot hinge arrangement to the bonnet; with horizontal bolts going out into captive nuts in the shell. That's how a 450SEAC I looked at was set up. Not easy to replicate on a 350i.

As has been said we have wedges with boots of different sizes so nothings a simple swapover.

I think this would be a job for a hot rod shop as they specialize in that 'clean' look.

Something here may work:

Correct... I didn't know that all the hidden hinged boots weren't like that!

Boot hinges...Mmmm...Im happy with the external type on my 350i but it does open up the question of .."Is there another way"?...Maybe something like this...

Although it looks like it might be a bit difficult to fit on a Wedge and you would still need a hinge as such...

TVR had a much simpler solution. In fact I don't know why they didn't do this in the first place:
