Hi Gents

I wonder if any body has rubber seal around their wedge windscreen only i have one around mine and it is all cracked and looks awful so can you still buy these and get a windscreen company to replace it or is there another way to fit the screen as some of the wedges don't seem to have a rubber seal any advice would be appreciated

Probably Mr Zigazaga on here is the right man to help you to find the best supplier.
Myself when looking for special seals etc: woolies have a site with lots of seals, as well as sealsdirect.
Best to have the dimensions and cross-section available to identify the right alternative.

Wedges wouldn't normally have any rubber around the windscreen - they're bonded in. Unless you mean the seal which runs around the screen frame and seals against the roof etc. - these are easily replaceable.

Agree, it is purely cosmetic around the windscreen, but who doesn't want to look good in the mirror wink or shopping windows!
My wedge has a piece of rubber/seal around the windscreen on the 350i, think that it is pushed into the sealant after the screen is installed. So find the right one online and order it.
Don't know if you can get the old stuff out easily without damaging for costly stuff... (windscreen and paint springs to mind)

Hi mate...Not sure about rebounding in an old screen...Has it any de-lamination/Milkiness...Normally in the bottom corners.
If the screen is in good condition then i wouldn't chance removing it...Possibly chipping it or worse...I can ask after the trim if you would like...Cheers...Ziga

yeah that would be handy if i could find a rubber but how is it fitted is it pushed into the sealant while it is wet? the screen has a tiny bit milky in one corner but not much what would be best a new screen and re=bonded in without a seal

A new screen would be nice IF you can find one and someone good enough to fit it...I know that people have had them fitted by auto-ass and other fitters but after the Glassman fitted mine i saw how it should be done...The trim is a personal thing but i think some had trim and some had bonding..Most 350i that i have seen have the trim..My 280i had a hard type trim.

My trim was fitted after the windscreen was sealed in...Not sure if i can remember if it was pushed into the wet sealant...I don't think it was cos i remember the trim going on a while after the screen went in.

When the Glassman did mine he made sure there was a fresh painted on seal against the trim and the glass so that the glass doesn't get stuck to it which is often the case.

Also if the fitter doesn't clean the traces of silicone off with the new screen with the correct degreaser then the bonding will not stick properly.

Its also the only time to address the side trim up the pillars of the windscreen....Or stick down any of the dash facing edge.

Rob,

New screens are easy to come by.

Contact Glassman )Paul).

You can even have one with built-in heater elements for those defrosting days.

Mark,

Paul got mine direct from Pilkington's.

If they have run out of stock then having the moulds they will produce one, even today:

http://www.pilkington.com/en-gb/uk/automotive/clas...

Mine was a £50 insurance job as it had a crack.

Thanks for that info Phil...I won't tell you what my insurance job cost but if it was £50 i would of given him a £100 tip!.....Paul is a really nice fella and does a fantastic job...Im just glad I'm not an insurance company....biggrin

PS: Just noticed that the screen advertised is a green tint...Mine was a blue..Delilah's was green...
