Hi, plodding through the 390SE misfire and trying to rule out another potential issue. I spoke to Mark Adams for some length and he was saying the although both AFM's are the same basic unit, the 390 has a different internal spring weighting due to the different vacuum the 390SE engine pulls.

Does anyone have any knowledge or details as to what the actual difference is and how you might go about adjusting a standard 350i AFM to suit the 390 engine?

Hi,

don't know about the 390 AFM but my 350 AFM was opened and not working when I bought the car. I went to a guy who adjusted the spring tension using a gaz analyzer and it works really fine now. You might find some useful information here in the manual EFI chapter:
