I know this is a bit of a previously contentious issue but, I am interested in a few cars at the moment, one a 350SE wedge has a whale tail spoiler unfortunately, the spoiler just does nothing for me. Where they original equipment on the 350SE if so would changing it detract from it's originality.

I have no idea how it fixes to the boot, there seems to be a support in the middle of it so I assume removing it will leave some holes.

Does a "normal" spoiler fit any of the whale tail holes and are they available.

Thanks

Nick

Yes, removing it will leave holes in the boot lid and no, none of the other spoilers available will fit these holes.

If you do buy the SE with the large spoiler i have a smaller one as fitted to later wedges that you can have.
It needs a small repair on the back edge but if you are going to spray the bootlid then you could repair this and spray it at the same time.

I have just bought a wedge with no spoiler and would be interested in buying a spoiler if you are interested in selling, if and when you have bought a wedge.

Nick

The whale tail was fitted to SE No 9 back in 2012

As per other posts in the thread removal will leave a couple of holes that will need filling and the lid painting

You can just about see the mounting in the attached pic

I was a bit unsure about it at first - It has grown on me and is part of her history

Cheers

Ade

Having a standard spoiler of the time was an optional extra on the 350SE. The whale tail type was only standard on the SEAC. However, I think the whale tail spoiler looks good on any wedge and really suits the 350SE. If it was mine, I'd keep the spoiler on. It makes the car looks fast and mean, and that's what Wedges are all about.

My 1986 390SE has a whale tail and likewise I'm not keen on it however my son thinks it's fabulous! There's an invoice from 1990 when it was TVR Blackpool factory fitted - it cost £354!

I am currently going through the should I or should I not piece of keeping SE Number 9 and in a moment of madness or genius I have decided to lose the whale tail.

Result is I now have x 1 very large SEAC spoiler in excellent condition in a fetching shade of Monza Red surplus to requirements.

I know the jury is hung on this one with the Whale look being a bit like Marmite.... So I might regret my actions.... Because I do like a bit of Marmite on my toast

So if anyone is interested becoming a member of the Whale Tail Club please drop me a line. If not I will put it on the Bay

Thanks
