Set it up. Bluetooth set up didn't work. Had to input passwords manually.

Remote is nice. Not many apps yet but surely more to come soon.
Lots of games.

Needs more streaming Freeview/iplayer apps.

At least I don't have to hook up my MacBook to the Rv for Netflix though smile

Just got back from the Apple store! Will set it up tonight.

Why does the stupid Thumbsnap uploader rotate the pic 90 degrees? I had to rotate the file through 360 degrees before Thumbsnap would upload it in the correct orientation. confused

Are they for sale in stores yet or is it order and collect?

I couldn't work out whether they were going for sale if you just walk in based on the news... use my old one all the time so really want one of these.

Does it need to be jail broken before kodi or is that not possible and I should carry on looking at fire tv from Amazon?

As this has proper apps I expect we'll see a Plex client on it soon enough, if Apple doesn't block it.

Got an ATV3, will watch this one though, see where it goes.

Issue I have there is no streaming to the device like chromecast, yes you can AirPlay but it's not as versatile as just casting.

Yup, just walk in and buy one - Aberdeen had loads of them.

No Iplayer app yet? That's annoying.

Might grab one after work. The old we have is probably the most used gadget in the house.

The Siri search doesn't look in my local iTunes library, which is a shame as I have over 1500 films in mine and was hoping to be able to navigate/search through them in a more efficient fashion

BBC announced an iPlayer app to be launched "in a few months"

At least it's coming. No news on the other channels but I suspect they'll follow suit if the Iplayer one is a success.

If there's an iOS app then I'm sure it will be easy enough an worthwhile enough to port it to the Apple TV. In the meantime I'm sure you'll be able to AirPlay from your iOS device?

I'm really looking forward to using it as a games console. Should be cracking fun

I received it in the post today and really have enjoyed goofing about with it.

Only thing is that when I use the Sony TV Bluetooth remote to switch from Apple TV HDMI to another HDMI port, it turns the Apple TV back on?? To combat it I just now use the "normal" Sony remote.

I also use my Apple TV (Third Gen) to stream music from iTunes on a MacBook Pro to a NAD separates system.

I use the 'Optical Out' connector on the Apple TV and a Fiio DAC to convert the audio signal to RCA for the hifi amp.

I'd like a new Apple TV, but it doesn't have an 'Optical Out' connector.

Not sure about the quality of the HDMI/Audio splitters.
Anyone have another way to steam music to a hifi, without having the TV set turned on?

Pretty happy the BBC are doing a native Apple TV app.

Looking forward to the MUBI app too.

Has anyone noticed any software changes on the Apple TV 3, since the new one came out?
I wonder if any of the new features/apps will work there.

Get an airport express. In the Apple TV menu - at least there is on my 3rd gen- an option to permanently AirPlay the audio output from the Apple TV. Hook the express into your stereo and you are good to go.
Works very well - I can AirPlay a movie from my Mac to the Apple TV. Picture plays correctly and the audio is then played through the amp input I have wired the express into.

Anyone know if there's an AmazonPrime app on it or in the pipeline?

I doubt it unfortunately.

http://www.macrumors.com/2015/10/01/amazon-to-stop...

"For Apple customers, this means the new fourth-generation Apple TV will not be available for purchase via Amazon.com. It also suggests the device will not be gaining an Amazon video app and will continue to be incompatible with the Amazon Prime Video service."

You should still be able to 'Push' Amazon Prime steaming from the app on your iPhone, to the Apple TV though.
