Hi all, I put a few miles on the 390SE over the weekend - all good apart from a fairly major leak from the rear gearbox oil seal which I'll need to sort soon.

One question but there's a switch on the dash board that appears to do nothing at all. Any clues as to what it should or used to do? I'm guessing maybe a manual switch for an electrical aerial?
Thanks.

Hi Keith.

Only thing that springs to mind is a possible rad fan override switch.. mine has one if things get a bit hot.

Or your front lights - I assume this isn't controlled by a steering wheer stalk ? my front light are also controlled by dash switch..

That used to be for the ejector seat. Up for top exit and down for floor exit. It was an optional extra in the seventies in case you didn't fancy the bird you picked up.

Or... maybe for an electric ariel ??? biggrin

Thank you for the useful comments - I certainly don't need a switch for fart fog, just a few pints of Scrumpy!

Sidelights, head lights etc are controlled via switch on steering column. Unknown switch in question doesn't seem to do anything at all. There's a broken flexible aerial where an electric used to be so can only guess it is an old manual over ride? I may well rewire it as a main fan override switch however - sounds like a useful upgrade which I've already done for the 350i. Cheers.

On my car a 1990 350se that is the headlight switch, (side lights, dip beam lights) with the main beam / flash on the left hand stalk.

I like the idea of an ejector seat !!!

Maybe good old TVR had a few old centre console around to use up having changed the switche arrangement.

Hi Keith,

think it's the aerial switch. Removed mine when I got new veneer. But if it's a more loud switch it would be great.clap

Cheers

Thanks for all responses. I'm fitting a new aerial at the weekend as the old one has broken off but it will be a fixed and short flexible one as the rather large subtle SEAC style spoiler doesn't allow for an electric pop up aerial.

I very much like the idea of using the switch as a cooling fan manual over ride switch.

Cheers.

Hi Keith,

another option might be this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blaupunkt-01-E-AutoSuper-R...

I installed it in the boot and it works really fine. I didn't like the external aerial.

Cheers

I also used that switch to fit a manual override for the fan with an in line fuse fitted-easy to do and works a treat.

My 390 has this red warning light for what ever reason, never seen it on! might change it for a switch for the fan and remove the after market job that can be seen just to right under the dash.
