Anyone changed their plastic header tanker and small expansion tank for nice ally items, if so any pics and any suggestions where the best place is to get them?

Also, is the little expansion overflow tank from the header really necessary?

Thinking of adding a little bling over winter.
Cheers
Steve

Ziga is your man when it comes to bling. Personally I do think the expansion header tank makes sense. The 350i has the extra TR7 derived second expansion tank and never looses a drop. The 390SE does not and I'm getting air locks in the heater so will be fitting an additional expansion tank.

Hi Stevo

I had this one custom made from a very skilful chap, He could probably make another but is very very busy...I kept the plastic catch tank, There is a small amount of water around a pint that stays in the catch tank...It gets sucked into the header tank when the coolant is cooling down but always ends up back in there on expansion...So i would keep it.

I changed the washer bottle to one that i purchased from a friend, I think the fitment was for a Griff....Hope this helps....Cheers...Ziga

Cheers guys, i'll probably keep the overflow tank from what you are saying.

Zig, i probably have contacts that can make me one up if there isn't one ready available but looking on the bay there seems to be one or two that could be somewhat suitable, i'll also look for a replacement for the smaller overflow tank.

If i get a move on it might even become a seasonal prezzysmile

I made extra bracket so it fits the existing bracket on the body work, I also have a matching washer bottle.

The Header tank looks small but it is the same volume as the original, as I did the maths and the diameter is larger than it looks. the 1st one I had made I made a mistake on size and did not take in account of the size of the cap and fitting. so it was too big. so got them made smaller but wider. also having the connections on the other side makes it a neater install.

if you do a search you may find my post on getting them made and sizes etc.

if there is demand I could get some more made.

Hi Stevo...I think the originals were about 1.5ltrs, I know when i drew up mine i made sure it was the same height and width albeit Wedge shaped...Mine was also made with a removable filler neck and has a large nut welded to the underside...

I must say I'm still chuffed with it and being stainless i don't need to clean it as much as if it was alloy....Doh...I have only just realised that your post was asking about "Alloy header tanks"...Oh well SS is a good option...smile
