HI guys, what have you done to tart up the engine on your cars. How far back to the block etc did you take it back? Did you use a sand blaster? What did you use to paint it? Has it lasted? Starting to work on the engine and box now, need it too look nice. Not too tarty but a bit better than stock. Please can you supply pics to give me an idea of wht to aim for..............ta like UG

Hi mate...I detailed my plenum, Rocker covers and a few other little bits and bobs..Mainly because the plenum had to come off to have all the fuel hoses replaced...And the rockers came off to change the leaky cork gaskets for later rubber types...

If i needed to remove the heads then i would of cleaned up the block and bell housing...The paint has been on mine for over two years and has only needed a tiny touch up where i have knocked it with tools while working...

The paint i used was VHT but more importantly i used a alloy HT primer as without it the paint will eventually flake off...
I can recommend this...

They are also very helpful over the phone.

I also found the Wonder wheels "Hot wheels" alloy wheel cleaner to be the best product for cleaning and a bit of wire wool...

Hope this helps...Ziga

Meant to say that the primer was SP148 as i recall..Its best to call and speak with them if you are unsure...Ill dig out the primer to check but I'm sure this was it...

Here is some i have done for other people...Also the paint needs to cure for a few days which helps to harden it off.

I also cleaned up and painted the AFM body...

Or if its just a spring clean.........get a tin of GUNK or similar.....put it in a sprayer of some sort

1) Run the engine so its warm
2) Then spray the GUNK all over (just don't spray it directly into the electric connections)
3) Put the kettle on, have a smoke, chill for 20-30 mins
4) Jet wash all the grime away
5) start engine / get warm to dry off
6) Go for a drive

Simples, done this on pretty much all of my tvr's no issues

You can do it on your drive or go to a garage / jet wash place.........just put the GUNK on and wait for a bit / check air in tyres etc then spray off

Sounds like my type of detailing! The 390SE engine bay needs a damn good clean so the spray can of Gunk will be out soon.

Occasionally I might clean the oil off the front pulley if I need to see the timing marks.

Lots of progressive cleaning and keeping on top of it...I'm not a huge blinger as I can't be bothered to shine all the time! Black is all painted with a brush, all halfords high temp paint
