The NCK 4.2 in the SEAC is my 1st Rover v8. I want to know more since they're not quite so common in US and I'll probably have some explaining to do. I'm fortunate to have a Land Rover dealer nearby to order things if need be. Aside from the many the nuggets distributed throughout Piston Heads, what other forums or sites have been found to offer reliable info? I'm interested in knowing more about what TVR did that's not common with LR, more about high performance mods that are known to work, and general tips to ensure longevity/what to watch for

Hay duke,
Did you buy the SEAC that was for sale on the east coast a few months ago? Do you know about the TVRCCNA with a region near you?
Let me know if you need anything from the club or your local region.

Hi Charlie -
Yes, I'm a member of both the US and UK TVRCC. You may remember my yellow V8 280i with the Ford 5.0/T5 from Woodworks in PA. (She's for sale, described on the US TVR Car Club site) I missed out on Tony's LHD 450SE years back and made a run at another LHD 450SE about 6 years ago, but the Customs/Import guys wouldn't allow it. The quote was that the car would have had to have been 'owned by the Sultan of Brunei himself' before a TVR would have significant historic value.

I'm up on some aspects of the old Buick mill, but haven't ever had my hands on one before. Right now, there's not a thing wrong with it and the spec coming back from Str8Six looks somewhat improved from original - I just want to find a few trustworthy references from people with a lot of experience with these engines.

So you got a 350i in recently?

The NCK in your SEAC would most probably have been built by Dom Trickett in his early days at North Coventry Kawasaki - some time before Peter Wheeler bought the company and re-branded it as TVR Power.

If you want to know more about your engine email dom on dom@powersperformance.co.uk or call him on +44 (0)24 7636 6177.

A few years ago I was chatting to him about the NCK RV8 units they built for the 400SE and he reeled off the full spec off the top of his head. So I would highly recommend you give him a shout.

Hope that helps

Cheers

No, maybe. I think not. One is BRG but with the normal 5 speed. The other is the Arabian auto box, which was the one US customs told me to forget about. It might be called 'green', it certainly wasn't red.

In the end, glad to have the black SEAC. When I first became aware of wedges, in 1986, the SEAC was in the press, but TVR were leaving US. That's when I fixated on it, like a duckling I suppose. 30 years later...

Not to be pedantic but North Coventry Kawasaki (NCK) was set-up and owned by two brothers, Graham & Allan Nash. Dom took up the reins after the Nash's exit following their sale of NCK to TVR (to become TVR Power, and more recently Powers Performance). See: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=VhWbCgAAQBAJ&a... for more information.

Indeed, Graham Nash still trades as NCK Motorsport ( http://www.perfectpower.com/index.php/united-kingd... ). Dom was around at NCK in those days, and is indeed very knowledgeable in all things RV8.

Absolutely. Graham is a great chap and by coincidence kindly helped trace back some intriguing TVR RV8 development history just recently. A highly knowledgeable guy.

All I was stating is that Dom, who had served his time at Andy Rouse Engineering was the young engine builder who worked for Graham and Allan putting together the RV8 units for TVR Engineering and indeed the 3.9 litre units for Morgan for the Plus 8.

Subsequently the NCK in Drew's SEAC would most probably have been built by Dom Trickett in his early days at North Coventry Kawasaki - some time before Peter Wheeler bought the company and re-branded it as TVR Power.

All good stuff thumbup
