Just seen the ad in Sprint. Does anyone know the background to this? Should we be worried?

Well i guess if you think about how much of a niche market TVR actually is then purely as a business to make any money you would need to manage any branding/Production in all areas and departments....At the moment margins are relatively small so they cannot afford to let any parts or accessories associated currently with TVR to not be associated with the "New" TVR...Engineering?...LTD?.....

We all should support it as custodians of these rare beasts but in the short term the recently recognised glitches in parts supplies should be addressed sooner rather than later as this is the main area that people have had to address over the years they have kept these machines alive, The last thing TVR needs is shytely manufactured parts...shoutPLEASE TVR.....MR EDGAR>>>USE BRITISH ENGINEERING>>>USE BRITISH STEEL>>>USE BRITISH WORKERS>>>USE BRITISH COMPONENTS....I for one am NOT confident in Chinese parts...They are inferior...They are NOT compatible with the original system even though proclaimed...YES LUCAS WAS over-engineered...So thank fk for that....Without that these cars would most certainly be very few and far between...

I now wonder if my little cottage industry of some of the things i was going to make or have made for myself and friends will be effected...Its not like I'm flooding the market..Or even have any income.....I own a TVR Wedge and have pure passion for the brand...And love for the people....I was going to approach TVR with some of the items i made but feared i would be issued with a "Cease and Desist" Order and then have my ideas used...If that happened i would disown my love and never look at another TVR...I would spit on them...Even the new ones...laugh

Perhaps if i made MR E some items for his Sag then he might just give me an evil eye.......smile

I tell you what is strange...I feel like i work for TVR...hehe...And thats just by owning one....Maybe it stems from defending the brand..In the early days of Delilah as most of you know i was infuriated at PPC magazine for what they said and was subsequently apologised to and was then featured as a readers car in one of their sections....smile I just wish "Miss soap suds" had come round to deliver it personally..."Lovely jublies"....

Seriously though i hope that TVR take the sensible route of good quality affordable British made parts....They need to embrace us all if we are all to embrace them....

Now don't forget to vote for me on May the 5th.....(FREE fuel for classic cars over 25 years old that begin with the letter T and end in R)

Maybe the factory will buy the moulds to support their aim of being a one stop shop for all spares of historic models?

There's nothing on the TET website. For those of use who don't subscribe to Sprint, what did the ad say exactly. I've just used a load of panels on my rebuild so it would be a tragedy if Trevor ceased production but doubly so if he is being forced to.

What about all the other makers of aftermarket parts for all cars? Replica panels? Entire chassis? Sounds more like retirement than unenforceable litigation.
TET were in business when PW was still alive and he wasn't exactly a business greenhorn, if he thought it would damage his bottom line I'm sure he'd have taken action.

I'd suspect he's retiring, Trevor told me a few years ago that the TVR panels buiness was slow and that he couldn't make a living out of supplying TVR panels and did lots of other things. At the the time I was surprised that he didn't do more, especially with the mumber of damaged cars you see around.

I don't know where TVR Parts source their panels but I know S&D didn't want to join the official network as they make their own panels and told TVR they wouldn't want to buy panels from 'unknown source' TVR didn't see any problem with that, so I doubt it's anything sinister as suggested above.

Might be worth them maybe buying them up as i doubt they would be of much use to anyone else.....At least they would be the correct moulds.

I don't think anybody would mind TVR buying the molds, what would be a shame is if they didn't make them affordable parts as TET seem to be and that they do actually make the parts available and not store them away, stopping others making them. In fact TVR couldn't possibly have all the resources at this time to efficiently supply all TVR model parts and accessories.

Trevor is looking to retire hence selling the moulds. I;ve been talking to him about buying them but Im struggling for storage at the moment.

I dont want to eat up all the profit ( which i need to pay off the money to buy them) going on paying for storage.

Thanks Graham, I hope it comes off for you.

I spoke to Trevor via email yesterday, on his 60th birthday. Retirement and gardening (fresh air after 40 yrs of dust and fumes!!) are the plans for the future.

I took the opportunity to thank him personally for helping keep my car on the road, and wished him all the best.

His workmanship and service has set the bar high for his successor.

I reckon SPRINT should do an article on him.

Well with a bit of luck all of the moulds have been saved and will be in their new home later this week. So all of TET's existing panels and a few others will still be available to keep the wedges on the road :-)
