Body alignment, body mounts?
Discussion
Working with Ade on his 390se today and it's getting very close to MOT. Just the engine service and a full electrical system check tomorrow and hopefully we are there? Oh and adjust the ###### handbrake again.
But something is obviously not right. I know a lot of Wedges mine included have issues with the body mounts so they may appear to have a slight lean. Mine is about is about 15-20mm high on the rear near side.
Ade's 390 looks like it's has a massive lean. I've took some pics today an a flat surface to illustrate. Any advice on how to improve this would be greatly appreciated. I can clearly see that the body mount below the seatbelt mount point is high as the chassis is slightly lower than the sill cover panel on that side.
Off side front
Near side front
Off side rear
Near side rear
All the body mount rubbers seem to be equally sized?
Karl.

Has the same issue as mine
The OS front is low and the NS rear is high
Could be springs or shocks or the the front rubber pad thing
If it has adjustable rear shocks play with the NS rear to bring the OS front up
I think mine are not right as if I sit on the NS rear wing, the front off side rises up to the correct level
I'm planning on on letting David Gerald fit a new set of springs / shocks and sort as start a new job next week so no more time dicking about with the 420SE :-(

Its certainly not unusual to have significant differences in the amount of body to chassis packing - maybe someone replaced some and mistakenly evened it up? Or as said, weak springs could be a factor - usually O/S sags.
And what cowboy hammered a balance weight onto an alloy (OZ) rim? Stick on weights on the inside are best.

Hi Karl
Alter the packing before springs and shocks (rear shelf and front tube)
Don't bother too much with the center as it restricts against the metal framing, obviously some will be needed to line the door striker again.
Henry is right none seem to be square to each other.
When's your next midlands outing ?

Thanks for that. We were hoping to get around to looking at it today but the electrical gremlins got in the way. Loads of bits that did work perfectly well now don't! But that aside Ade is nearly ready for MOT. The only two outstanding jobs to get it through are replacing the reverse lights switch on the box as this was permanently made. Novel fix the lamps had been removed :-). And the wiper arm is toast so another has been ordered today.
The thing sounds amazing. Had it in the garage popping and banging. Bet the neighbours though they were under attack.
Fingers crossed it will pass on Satuday then we will be off to the TVRCC meet on the 8th in Shrewsbury?
I think we should schedule a blast to Burton though mate to get a pic of a 350, 390 and 400se together ;-)
