:/ huff. Me to, it's in my videos ! But don't know how to share it.

As for the coolant temperature sensor and the throttle sensor, both check out ok which is a good thing.

That's the colortune plug terminal (repaired) at the plug. it's very old, almost as old as me but it works quite well.

I will keep looking, I have got to find the problem eventually.

New video. https://youtu.be/I7cjOsx5D7s

Missed the hunting after starting, but just wanted to show how thick the soot is in the exhaust.

Do they all sound like this?

This was before your time Mark. The idea was that the colortune plug allows you to look inside the cylinder while it's firing and hence see the colour of the flame. In throry it should be blue if the air fuel mixture is correct. In reality, they weren't that accurate. I remember using it on my Hillman Hunter.

I took mine to my local garage and asked them to plug it into their analyser for £20. Last time I used a colourtune was on my Cooper engined Morris 1000 in 1983. It sounded great with its twin SU's and pancake air filters but wouldn't stop and wouldn't go around corners at any speed safely. RMB654H where are you now?

Oh i see.. Thanks for the explanation...Makes sense why its called "Colourtune"...Seems a bit pointless though...You don't have much control over the fuelling unless you have an adjustable FPR...

You could increase the air on the AFM but i would want to know what has been done to it in the first place and why?....The black plastic top has reportedly been disturbed...If someone has fiddled with it to try in vain to sort out a mis-fire then you would need to set it to where it should be initially ...

Couldn't see any black smoke...The carbon you are wiping off is only coming off due to the internal condensation of the exhaust making it wet...Sounds like its idling okay?...

I have used my gas tester on my 280i. I need to dig out my colortune and see what it says.

Mark - the color tune was for tuning cars with "car"-buretors, long before pressure regulators were needed or used on 'normal' (non-racing) cars. Grady
