I currently have Windows running on my MacBook Pro through Parallels but it's causing issues and is restricted performance wise. I have a SSD which I want to put into the optical drive location as a second drive and leave the HD where it is.

Is it possible to use the SSD solely for Windows? Including all OS and Bootcamp software. I don't know how to approach this as I've only installed Windows to a partition on the Mac HD.

I guess I could install a fresh Bootcamp partition onto my current HD and format the SSD for windows and use it as a storage drive? Though putting the Windows OS on the SSD may have performance benefits..

I will be using it intensively over the next few months so I might as well do it right.. Does anyone have any advice on how to set the SSD up to install bootcamp as a second drive?

What sort of issues? I'm running Win 10 and Centos under Parallels 11 and it's been rock solid

You would likely see a decent performance gain just by replacing the HD with the SSD and running windows via parallels. I really don't see a need for bootcamp much these days.
