Third brake light
Discussion
One of the New Zealand traffic rules is that all vehicles have to have a third brake light (with regulations about its height, visibility etc).
So for the import registration/inspection I put a LED strip light in just under the top of the boot, as high as possible in the moulding.
Although it's technically too low and not vertical, I argued that there's really nowhere else to put it, unless they force me to put a spoiler on...which wrecks driver's rear vision..(etc) - so they gave in and passed it.
Photo attached....
Yes, that IS my back garden.

UK requires 100mm distance between brake and fog lights.
Thanks though. Was thinking similar as to what you have done.
Anymore out there.
OK - I nipped out to shed and measured. As you can see mine has the Capri rears. Thanks though. Was thinking similar as to what you have done.
Anymore out there.
They are 635mm apart (just for double check)
The centre strip is actually 190mm horizontally and 200mm vertically away (edge to edge) from the Capri lights
- so it would PASS that reg !

A fine beast...Bloody hell i bet that grass takes some cutting...
Yes.It's 1.8 hectares (= about 4 acres) with 300 olive trees, and some fruit and nut trees. Photo shows newer and smaller olive trees. Got some big ones about 4 metres high further up.
I have a ride-on mower - a John Deere Z445 (excellent V-twin Kawasaki engine) and it STILL takes about 5 hours weaving in and out the trees.
Pruning olive trees takes about 2-3 weeks every year..... just a bit different from a Manchester council house !
Always something to do, besides the car stuff....

What a life...So are you running the Wedge on olive oil...It's 1.8 hectares (= about 4 acres) with 300 olive trees, and some fruit and nut trees. Photo shows newer and smaller olive trees. Got some big ones about 4 metres high further up.

The factory fit some to the last 280i's and I believe they also fitted them to some other cars.
That's what mine looks like. The 3rd light - or Center High Mounted Stop Lamps (CHMSL) as it is fondly called by the DOT - was required over here starting in the 1986 model year. But I think my 85 has one too. GradyWedg1e said:
That's a bit draconian even by UK standards, requiring retrospective fitment of something that wasn't original. Would a 1920s Model T Ford have to have CMHTBL-or whatever as well?
Yeah, I agree. But them were the rules at the time, unless you went for a 'special vehicle' category which was a whole other hassle and cost.In some ways it's even WORSE now, they tightened the rules even more because of wound back and written off vehicles being imported from Oz and Japan after many buyers were caught out buying dangerous crap.
They widened the 'special vehicle' categories, I haven't checked, but I think my wedge would get in as special, but the weirdest thing is they restrict the numbers allowed each year, and you have to do almost a full certification which costs equiv of about 1000 quid.
Even now, for example I can't even fit adjustable height shocks as it's regarded as a 'serious modification'. Those rules are ridiculous.
There was a point where someone I know with a Lotus had to hide his car, as it was imported and registered and then they changed the rules (rather stupidly creating a conflict) and then DVLA equiv. tried to enforce a full recertification on him.
He went to court over it, and won.
But then today, anything that's not 'New Zealand New' is regarded as probably dodgy.
EDIT - I just realised that some of this stupidity is because the rules are written not as "manufacture date" but "first registration in New Zealand" which is why all imported cars are caught up.
