I did not know they made a 460.or am I just being thick
They didn't, it was a good while before Landrover made a block that could stand that much expansion of capacity. They did do a one-off 660.
Most of the odd-balls are cars that someone's bodgeneered another engine into, usually without any other mods to help the rest of the car cope
EHi all
Certainly looks like the car I viewed in the link that zigs posted its the right colours and it had the 460 decal on the back. Off the top of my head the reg ended VMG or similar
Its a lot more expensive than when I saw it last !!!!
Here's a quick summary of the issues that needed attention on the car (in my opinion)
The main issues were chassis outriggers - not holed but corroded quite badly on the outrigger itself also the chassis rails which connects the outrigger to the main backbone had surface rust all over having lost all of its protective coating on its entire length at £12500 I should hope that they've been replaced rather than cleaned up and painted to get past a friendly MOT inspector otherwise the new owner I looking at a large bill in a year or two, remember that it needs a body lift to do properly
The rubber items had suffered during the lay up - its been off the road for 10 years or so - all the tyres had started to crack and all the hoses under the bonnet were VERY hard and started to crack - I'm assuming all the rubber items on the rest of the car weren't far behind. My intention had I got the car was to replace the lot - Coolant hoses, brake lines ,oil hoses and ESPECIALLY fuel lines.
I also assumed that the rubber suspension bushes ,engine and gearbox mounts would be perished also and I budgeted to replace them had I won the car
The brakes were sticking - again my intention would have been a full overhaul with refurbed calipers all round, discs and pads replaced new brake hoses and fresh fluid
The rest was cosmetic - road rash on the front (front end blow over needed) refurb wheels with fresh rubber and get the interior cleaned and connolised, all the wood was cracked.
There was some documentation from v8 developments for engine works but wether its a full v8 developments engine or they've just done bits to it wasn't clear , I worked on the basis of it being a std 400.
I was told that the winning offer was 'around' £5000
I was working on the basis of the refurbed car being worth around £9K once completed and worked back from there to work out what to bid on it
If its been refurbed correctly (ask for documentary evidence)it could be an excellent car
The price being asked on the high side (my opinion) but probably about right if all the above items have been addressed, depends on what has actually been done and how well and also if the engine can be proved to be a full v8 developments 4.6 or not. There's also a premium for buying through the dealer
If you're in need of more info please pm me
Thanks Ron
