So, it seems that the radiator fan of my 350i doesn't want to live with the Wedge anymore. Nor to work, so it's requesting for divorce and retirement.

What's the best replacement? And tips where to get one?

Dont get a cheap one from ebay, they don't last very long. Spal are very good but expensive.

While I'm waiting for the restart - I wonder if you can use computer fans - about 10 or 20 of then, they are so reliable these days, run on 12V, and you could switch them in banks depending on how much cooling you need. Even if a few fail you would have 90% of your cooling.

Funny you should say that Adam....I bought 10 12v DC 4" fans from china a while back for Delilah, I was going to place them in strategic points to aid under bonnet cooling...Even to the point of glassing some fixings under the vents and fitting a thermo switch to trip them...It was mainly for slow moving traffic or stopping......smile

Although I'm not sure they would be strong enough to cool the rad

Depends on what you get. The quiet ones are not the ones to go for - they only rate at around 70 cfm.
You can get up to 250cfm from a single 120mm fan (or I didn't check - there can be even louder ones.

Kenlowe lists some fans around 2000m3/h, which is around 1200cfm. So with 4-6 (really loud ones) PC 120mm fans you get the same airflow.

TL;DR don't use PC fans. You can, but you shouldn't.
