Hi, another wedge up on the bay, is it a known car? Have seen it on there a couple of times now? Is there a story to the car?

Cheers in advance

Hi Stuart

here is a link to a short thread about the said car...
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

It might be worth more as its a rare 1 of 3 "Submariner Wedges"...The other two were 450SE so its the only one...Worth loads mate...hehe

Hope it helps

Submarine alright haha

Thanks for the link. I think £1,500 is about the limit for that car seeing as it's going to need a full restoration.

I personally still feel its a bargain at £1500...smile

In an ideal world if you are able to sort it with pulling in favours and calling on friends to muck in to remove body etc then the cost of restoring will be considerably less.

Mind you there is restoring to a pristine level or restoring back to original...The latter being more expensive as according to the classic car market evaluation of a "Restored to original" or Concours classic car then every detail MUST be original to the cars design and look how it left the factory.

This means paint/Shade and mix..Interior/Colour & Material...Engine/No mods whatsoever..Even a different cam voids it from being original..Wheels/Finish and tyre fitment..Running gear..Even the make of hoses used all have to be exact to spec as when it left Bristol Avenue... However this option is so unrealistic, especially if you intend driving the car instead of trailering it to shows and museums....Personally I don't think the rare car market are ready for Wedges yet...smile

I hear you Ziga,

Personally, I would have the chassis done then the bodywork repainted then the interior. With this particular car it would stay green but maybe not that shade with a nice interior to complement the body colour. I would also want to look at the engine to see if it can be improved.

My idea would be to have a car that looks great and goes like stink, I'm not interested in having a show pony that doesn't get driven, for me, that's not what owning a TVR is about.

Hopefully one day I'll get my hands on one :-)

Amen to that sir!!....

Could be a rolling resto...The RV8 is a hardy lump so as long as its had no heavy abuse and regular oil changes when it was running then should be okay...

Chim or Griff seats fit, The original Wedge seats are in my opinion much more comfy but then you could get those re-trimmed at your leisure...Carpets will probably be worthy of the bin.

Paint is paint so ..Whatever

The chassis may need some attention and yes a fair bit is hidden from view but if the visible rot ..(If any) can be addressed then thats not too grim...The only downside is that it may need a partial body lift to address rotten outriggers..

Obviously changing all fuel hoses...Some contact cleaner on all the earths and plug connectors...

If i had the money and storage id snap it up.....smile

Have contacted the owner, apparently when it sold last time in November on the bay the winning bidder never got in contact with the seller so it's back up for sale.

The seller reckons it's worth the 3.5k it went for last time, says it's worth 2.5k in parts and the wheels alone are worth 1k.

So, I will keep an eye on the auction and see where things stand when the item is due to expire.

Bidding stopped at £3,750 but immediately relisted at £4,500 as a classified ad fixed price.

Hmmm, doesn't seem right to me. Has 'sold' now twice on the bay but hasn't actually sold and is now relisted for 4.5k. Apart from smelling something fishy, I do t think the car is worth anywhere near that in its current state...

Same seller so assuming greed is driving this

More he does it the less folk will bid

That can't be worth 4.5k......it needs heaps.......doesn't even look like it can be made into a rolling resto IMHO but what do I know lol

Yeah, needs chassis work plus paint and new interior. I'd say possibly 10k worth of work. IMHO the seller is dreaming at 4.5k

In all seriousness, what's the general sense of opinion on what it (or a 400SE in similar state of disrepair) is worth???

In my opinion if the chassis is in reasonable state and can be refurbished/restored without the need for a body lift, then the car can be made roadworthy and looking good for under 10k including the purchased price. If the chassis is too far gone then it's not worth anywhere near 4.5K. The only way to know is to get someone to go and check it over.

Thanks Tony, there are a couple of pics of the chassis in the ad but not enough to get any idea really. I didn't know that chassis work could be done without a body lift...

The outriggers can be changed without a body lift even on a 400SE although normal practice would be to lift the body. There is a way however it can be done. If the central section of the chassis is damaged then the body would have to be lifted, and then it starts costing big bucks. The chassis aside, the rest can be done I reckon under 10K including purchase price.

There is no way that the car in question is worth over £3.5k as is.

If it was me wanting to buy, I would make him/her a firm cash offer. You never know. If they are faced with a genuine buyer with cash in hand there may be a compromise. After all it's in their interest to shift it as much as you wanting to buy. Worth a try?
