Yeah if your pipe end has a rim it does top things slipping off the end at the wrong moment...

A 100W soldering iron and electrical solder produces a very quick and neat join with minimal heat transference. However.....

.......I experimented with 8mm gas compression fittings; I tightened the fitting to get the olive to clamp onto the pipe and then cut the compression nut to get it off the pipe. ...
This is a really clever idea. So a pot of tea and a bit of lateral thinking later...

The tail is is bit too long but I think this can be "tuned out" with a bit of practice.

Thanks to the The Hatter for the idea thumbup

I'm glad you liked the idea, it worked for me!

Cunning plan with the split nut, I like that.

Had the feed run in 8mm kunifer, The end was knurled so a tight fit...Paul also covered the section near the exhaust with the old hose and where its strapped to the chassis.

So far there are two advantages of this...

1. I no longer can smell fuel along the O/S edge of the car
2. Seems to start better and have a better throttle response

Having peace of mind is a great thing...

Again thanks to Mr K......

I replaced the fuel line in my SEAC a few years ago with copper as thats what came out but was looking a little tired.

It was 8 or 10mm, I never bothered with knurls and had no issues but like what every one has come up with.

When i get round to my Tamiar it will gwt the same treatment. Only a little bit of pile to connect at the ends.

Many thanks to 'toms-dad' for helping me out yesterday. I now have nice new copper running from the back to the f/n/s wheel-arch and new Gates rubber hose from there up to the distributor head.

The old pipe was badly cracked and perished so if your car is a similar age then I'd urge you to check your hoses carefully and change them asap is they are in any way showing their age.

'toms-dad' came up with a neat suggestion for using the olive crimping tool shown above. By assembling the olive on a short piece of pipe and doing up finger tight you can then remove the pipe and leave everything locked in place with the olive nicely centered. This means you can easily crimp an olive onto the end of a pipe while lying underneath the car with restricted access.

With a bit of practice I reckon you could crimp an olive on single handed. Mind you, he did wait until we'd got to the last olive before coming up with the idea laugh

So between Hatter, toms-dad and myself we've come up with a brilliant little tool. I think that's called R&D laugh
