Is anyone able to advise of the current effect of foreign speeding violations on a UK licence? I've just been notifed by my hire company that they have been told of a traffic violation (I presume speeding) in the Netherlands and have passed my details to the Dutch authorities.

As I say, I assume speeding and if that's the case although I didn't intentionally speed, I'll pay any fine that comes my way. But if there are points levied...can they go on a UK licence?

I've done some googling and all I can find is some agreement in 2015 which allows cross border authorities to share details to levy fines. Can't see any chat on points.

Thanks

If yu fail to pay the 'fine' there is nothing that can be done unless you return to the country where you were caught.

106 km/h in a 100 km/h zone...bds!

I'll be returning to the country regularly so will have to pay the EUR45 fine.

No points in NL, it is just for money like in the UK but without the hypocrisy around it. I got done for 112 km/h on the A2, at least it is cheap as well.

No points system in the Netherlands (unless you're a new driver with a Dutch licence).

It is simply not practical to apply penalty points for offences outside your home country.

Some countries (like NL, Belgium) simply don't have such a system, whereas others (France, Luxembourg) have a system which deducts points.

There is a European agreement on driving disqualifications, but for the time being the only countries applying it are the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Are you meaning just Ireland and U.K. are sharing bans or say (example only) if I'm pulled over and banned after driving between wine tastings pissed that'll apply in the UK too?

It's £38, would those people advocating that the fine be ignored genuinely be unwilling to pay out the price of a round of drinks and instead run the risk of the Dutch plod getting somewhat upset if something else happens?

Only between UK and Ireland. E.g. if you are stopped over the limit and subsequently banned by an Irish court, the DVLA will apply the ban in the UK, and vice versa for Irish Residents stopped in the UK.

Aside from that, bans in other countries have no effect on your right to drive in the UK, providing you hold a UK licence.

If you live in the UK but hold a French licence, a driving ban incurred on a trip to France would effectively apply in the UK because The French authorities would register the ban on their system and you would no longer have a licence.

You'll get stopped when you show your passport when you are leaving Schiphol or Hoek van Holland ferry port etc, maybe miss your flight/ferry

ask me how I know

at the ferry port they told me they had the right to seize my car if I didn't pay 6 euro immediately
