Trying to locate a road, I test drove an M3 from BMW in York and they took me out on some roads near there (within 5 - 10 minutes), it was generally through woods and fields and got to a point where we had to slow down as the road passed through a stone arch that was only wide enough for one car to carefully pass through.

Where is that please?

Is it Strype Lane near Skelton?? Don't really know the area but I like a map challenge!

No but its the right neck of the woods - land was a little more hilly (not much) and went through wooded areas.

The stone arch was like an old stone gateway, i.e. not a tunnel or anything like that.

Oh well, that's my best shot for now- perhaps someone with actual local knowledge will come along.

Of course, if he took you south, there are various arches through the city walls- but that doesn't really fit with the trees and fields!

Maybe just call the dealership? They'll use that route all the time I'm betting!

yes That would tie in with the OP's more hilly/wooded description. The Vale of York is as flat as a pancake.
A stone arch like a old stone gateway. Check: https://goo.gl/maps/5tazFmpnEBP2

Maybe it was that. I didn't think I'd driven that far from the dealership but maybe I did - it was a long time ago.

Thanks
