In preparation for a new O/S head gasket and O/S stainless manifold (N/S manifold changed to stainless a while back). I just hope that the head comes off the studs ok, as clearance to the pedal box moulding looks tight.

The offside one is a pain - you might need to get the allen key onto the rear studs and remove them to get enough clearance because of the lumps on the bulkhead.

I think I inserted mine after putting the head in place.

Also I might have moved the engine forward a bit to get more clearance.

You have to be especially careful to get easy clearance because if you let the head face drop back onto the studs it will scratch it very easily.

Its normally easier to loosen the passenger side engine mount and remove the bolt from the drivers side mount so you can jack the engine up to get to the rear bolt.

If you have ARP head studs then you are in a whole different world of pain.

Yeh, figured it wouldn't be easy frown
They are Arp studs by the way. I've taken the N/S head off before, which was easy, but not the O/S. Got a bit sidetracked with decorating now, but I was wondering if just removing the studs whilst the head is still on (provided there is clearance to get the studs out of course) would be feasible.

Yes if they will budge! Once the nuts are off try extracting the studs with a hex key.

I suppose if they won't budge with the hex key you could try some half-nuts done up against each other tight but you'll have to get unf ones as it's a fine thread.

The studs have plain ends, no hex, but they should only be hand tight anyway. Too cold in the garage at the moment to work anyway Adam.

Been busy on the Gredge with the jobs to do list:

Fitted new front brake vented rotors which I had grooved along with Ferrodo pads with the AP 4 pots - massive improvement on the cheaper pads yes

New front wheel bearings and track rod ends and a proper Geo set up.

New Iridium plugs - dizzy cap - rotor arm

Back to the paint shop to touch up the spray job after settling period with colour coded OZ's - well pleased .....

Now just the interior in deep red with grey trim and we are done

Here is how she looks now .....

Thanks guys especially pleased with the bonnet:

Managed to glass in some strengthening around the struts and the middle "sag point" as well as better adhesive for the heat material on the inside of the bonnet
