Hi Keith.

Are those washers on the thread?...Are they boot side?....Just thinking out loud that maybe some 5mm rubber spacers behind the metal ones that sit against the plates?.....

Looks an interesting one.....

Do you have a picture of the fixing in the boot at all?...

Cheers
Ziga
Hi Mark, yes the round bit is a stack of washers. These pack the bumper out to ensure the front edge of the bumper lines up with the wheel arch correctly. You can change the washers to get the adjustment just right. There are two oversized holes in the boot outer wall that the bumper bolts through. There's a fair bit of adjustment with a large washer and nylon holding the bumper on. On my 350i there were also three self tapers screwed from inside the boot side panels down into the bumper sides. On the 390 it only has the two main bolted connections but no side connections.

Thanks Keith...So that outer plate sits against the bodywork?...Perhaps a rubber mount there...Im just thinking for future reference...Its good to be as tight as can be but having some bump stop it might stop the bracket from getting disturbed by bad road surfaces/Potholes...Something I have a lot of in South London...frown

Mine has the tell tale signs of flakiness under the fibreglass so mine will probably need doing at some point.....

When I did mine on the 350i I made the brackets a bit longer so I only needed one or two washers. Those washers weigh an absolute ton, and the alternative slightly longer bracket saves a LOT of weight.

Of course when remaking the replacement you have the luxury of knowing exactly how much slack to take up, unlike at the factory where they didn't know which car the bumper was going on until it was fitted.

Gearbox back on.....wiggle wiggle and she's home and bolted up. Seem to have lost one of the long bell housing bolts doh

New gearbox bushes on, engine mounts on to line everything up

Just the prop, gear shift remote, slave cylinder and the exhaust manifolds.....hope to get the last few bits done this week (fingers crossed)

It's a pretty 50 50 call on move engine forwards or just remove it completely.

Getting access to the clutch is difficult with the engine in situ. Changing the flywheel is difficult too. If using ARP bolts even more difficult.

If I move the box then I can shut the garage door, whereas if the lump is out I have to leave it open or find somewhere to put said lump.

That tends to swing the equation firmly towards moving the box, apart from the faff of getting a hoist etc, as I can then take my time over a few days.

Plus - the bonnet doesn't have to move, no draining the coolant, etc, etc...

Well the final stretch.....new poly gearbox remote bushes in, prop on, gearbox splash guard, slave back in, engine and gearbox mounts all tightened up, engine bay hoses reconnected and topped up the clutch fluid. Just got to bleed the clutch then I'll find out if it's all been worth it lol

Good luck. Nice to see the SEAC coming back together again. I still shudder when I think of the silver Wedge "rebuild"!

Original rear bumper refitted to 350i with it's new brackets. All looking good. Spent a bit of time checking the bodywork and touching up a fair few stone chips. Also replaced the front side light LED bulbs which had a slight blue tint to them with some standard filaments as Mr MOT man had said they should really be changed, although not an advisory.

Had a further fiddle with the 390SE and adjusted the fuel mixture a little more, as it's still not 100% right. Found the indicators and hazards weren't working so eventually tracked fault to a loose relay. Then had a spirited thrash down the local lanes.

Glen,

Re gearbox remote bush I seem to remember someone posting a year or so back that these aftermarket g/b remote bushes do not last long at all?

What colour - blue by any chance?

It mybe an idea to keep an eye on it for the first few weeks or months.

Time for a very LARGE beer, SEAC now all done, put the starter motor back in, HT leads & AFM back on and the main exhaust and tail pipe, drained and re filled the gearbox oil. Then, with the car on her stands she started straight up purring like a kitten. Tried all the gears and the clutch works wooooo hooooo, can't wait to take her out over the weekend :-)

Spent weekend making rubber gaskets for the inlet manifold to air box and alloy trumpet to air box gaskets out of 2mm rubber sheet.

Not very exciting but I prefer this to RTV silicon as it makes such a mess and the rubber gasket is reusable.

I am contemplating gluing it one side to make it easily removable.

I spent 4 hours yesterday clearing out my garage and taking a car load to the dump, finished off this morning by hanging bits and pieces on the walls and taking a few bits to garage where T350 is, all ready now to fill up with the Gredge hold up a minute turned my back and grand kids have parked their car in it laugh
