the N/S headlamp pod that is

Sometimes it does and some times it doesn't. I've checked all the connections and there is good electrical continuity throughout.

If I switch he lights off, reach under and turn the manual knob (carefully!) the pod will cycle up and down again. Then it might work automatically ... or it might not .

Any and all ideas welcomed.

Streaky.

If the electrical connections are ok, the only thing left do is perhaps to make sure the motor and workings parts are clean and greased up where necessary. You could also drop in another relay to see if that helps.

I would suspect either the brushes are worn or the commutator is burnt out.

Theres a copper strip inside with contacts either end that may need cleaning. But be careful not to bend it cos it wont bend back without drilling out the centre rivot then bending it back and replacing it.
Failing that the brushes tend to stick.

Sounds like the swich / control box on the side of the motor, take it apart carefully and clean everything, rebuild with vaseline and try again.

Humm! Now the other pod is not going down! It comes up OK, just won't go down when headlights switched off. Winding it down manually is OK, motor does not try to turn (unlike opposite problem with N/S pod).

Diode problem maybe?

PS - and all this just because the O/S front indictaor wasn't working (bad connector) - S

Interesting!

As I was driving to Swindon today, the O/S headlight popped up and down again all on its own

Both seem to be OK now
