Me again.

Friend picked up his first TVR on Sunday, a 280i Tasmin. He informs me that it has no fuel reading on the gauge. Can anyone tell us where the fuel sender is situated i.e which tank, top or bottom etc.:scratchin:

Cheers chaps

9 out of 10 Wedge owners prefer reading 'The Bible' **
** in comparison with anything you can but at Halfords.

I'd go and have a quick look for you, but my bible is in the boot and it's kind of hard to get to right now. Sorry.

The sender is located at the side of the tank,in the inside just above the transmission tunnel.
Hope this helps

As I understand it although I suspect that someone out there with more tech knowledge will say otherwise, there are different locations for sender units depending upon age of the car. it also differs whether it is convertible or fixed head, 2 or 4 seater. Since you refer to it as a Tasmin, I assume it is early, in which case if it is a convertible, it is at the top front inner face of the nearside tank. My own experience of trying to change one of these about 12 years ago resulted in giving up trying to do it in situ without removing the tanks but then before dropping the tank chose to go in through the top and cut out a small access hole though the front end of the parcel shelf which after I completed the work I replaced with an aluminium plate in time for the next time I have to change it. Dodn't make much difference though, new sender unit lasted 3 months before it too failed. 2nd one lasted 11 months. Since then I fill up every 200 miles and s*d the fuel guage!

I changed the gasket on my A reg 280 FHC without any problems.

Try shorting the wire to earth first to see if it is a wiring / gauge prob.

Thanks a lot guys. Always impressed at how helpful everyone is on this site. I have passed on the info so we still have one very happy newbie to TVR ownership.

The sender on my 83 Tasmin 200 is on the inside of the o/s tank. It is possible to get at it although a little awkward. Good advice to try shorting the wires on the sender.
