Finally got her up!

The 350 is now sitting on 4 ramps. I did have her on axle stands but they get in the way when your trying to wriggle around, i feel a bit safer to for some reason.
Anyway laying beneath the car the chassis looks in good shape, just a bit of surface rust and flaky paint. The outriggers are fine, no rust + plenty of waxoyl. I did notice though that the diff is wet with a bead of oil hanging off it, and the same on the gearbox. Seems to be coming from where the selector goes into the box!
Is this a major problem? The car has not been moved for a few weeks and not dripped oil onto the garage floor except beneath the diff where there are a couple of drops.

Sounds like you got a good chassis then, partuicularly lucky with the outriggers! Sould be a good job for over the winter months.
With regards to the diff leak, is it just coming from the drain plug? mine had a drip there until I replaced the oil and put a bit of Hylomar on the threads before replacing it, its never re-appeared.
Happy painting,
Andy.

My old 350 and current 400 both leaked oil from the selector shaft. There is a tiny o ring inside the box which eventually wears and allows the oil being thrown around inside to seep along the shaft, most noticably when the car is in 5th gear for long periods and the shaft is at it's furthest point out of the box. It also depends what oil you use. I have used atf but found it very thin, and more likely to find it's way past the o ring. Then tried Castrol SMX, which is a bit thicker, so leaked less, but more crunching when cold going into second. When the box was last rebuilt, the problem was finally solved by machining the housing for a proper oil seal, and it hasn't leaked a drop in more than six months. Also using engine oil in the box now.
