Guys, i am a little concerned about eventually starting the engine after a potentially long period of time.
I last had the engine running in August when i parked the car in the garage ready to start painting the chassis. The exhaust has been removed as it was rotten, and the radiator has been removed as it needs replacing/re-coring!!
Thing is, what if it takes until March(ish) for me to finish? Is it ok just to start the car? I have read so much stuff in classic car mags regarding winter storage e.g start car regularly..drive around the block. I assume changing the oil is a wise move, but i'm more concerned about it just sitting there for months.
Thanks chaps,

Wayne.

(Stainless, when is your car is being featured?)

Squirt some engine oil down the spark plug holes b4 starting (it will smoke a bit!) and put fresh petrol in

When I drained my tanks the gauge was below the red yet I still got a good 10 litres of fuel out!

Petrol deteriorates over time, six plus months is too long to leave it. Also change oil and filter, ensuring the pump is primed before starting the engine.

In the past I have just disconnected the HT from the coil and turned the engine over on the starter every few weeks. Drain the fuel is the best bet, and dont forget to increase the tyre pressures or get the weight off of them.

If you don't turn the engine occasionally, you may find that the rings can cause the bores to corrode. WD40 down the plugs will help, but as its been standing for a while, I would pour a bir of thin oil through the plug holes, leave it to stand for a day, before trying to start it.
After saying that, I had a Yank off the road for over a year, and after changing the battery, it started OK, with the petrol that had been standing in the tank...
