After a few months of thinking I've just bitten the bullet and ordered a new exhaust from ACT.
Having seen (and heard) a few other wedges, I've always thought that mine's been a bit quiet. So I've just ordered a straight through centre pipe. That leaves me with only a very small silencer box on the back.
I've been itching to do this for months!!
How do you think it'll sound? I'm thinking

Gavin

Can I now start saying?
BIG BAD WEDGE!

Gavin,

I can't wait to hear it...

I think we will have to have a bit Wedge meeting early next year..

6 of us met up near Welyn GC in Nov and a few Wedges met up in Andover .. we will have to pick somewhere in between and have a BIG BAD WEDGE gathering....

Wedge meet would be superb, I'd be happy to help organise something.

It probably still won't be quicker than the MR2. Might drown out the weedy 4 cylinder though

Weedy! You couldn't describe it as weedy, esp compared to your runabout sat in the drive today, cheeky sod [/quote]

It's finally arrived! I fitted it last sunday. What a difference! The neighbours hate me. To quote my Dad "it now sounds like a stock car". It was quite easy to fit when I'd found a bolt I hadn't noticed, although it did take me six and a half hours.
Just looking forward to driving it more now, anyone fancy coming out for a blast?

Gavin

Forgot to say. Thanks to Tim at ACT, top job!

Cheers Gavin
Glad it fitted, as it came straight from the factory and i have never fitted one of these early (and very rare) systems.

I had 3 seized bolts, one broken bush and a bolt that I didn't notice for 2.5 hours. Fitted spot on once I had the old system off.
As Gaz said you can't see a lot, but I did take a pic of the new and old system next to each other. I'll post them in the next couple of days. (I've been having some computer probs for the las week).

Gavinr, what problems IF any are there with a straight through system come MOT time?
I remember ordering race systems on motorbikes, if they were not BS approved they were illegal. Not totally sure how this applies to cars? Anyone tell me for difinite?
Still... BIG BAD WEDGE.

Waynester,
My wife's Supra had a blown rear box and failed it's MOT & as it was for sale I didn't want to pay Toyota prices for a new back box. The MOT guy confirmed that on older cars they don't check the noise. The exhaust that is in place simply has to be not leaking. I cut off the back box on the Supra and fitted a 2" pipe straight out the back. Sounded awsome and passed it's MOT. This was a 2001/2002

Here is the only decent pic I have. The ones I took of the underside of the car didn't come out very well.

Gavin's is a very rare Series 1 350i the huge majority don't have this transverse type box, incase anybody was wondering.
I guess if was original not surprising that it didn't want to be removed.

My girlfriend was fuming by the time I finished. It was our first day off together for 2 weeks. I was saying don't worry it'll only take an hour.
As I said earlyer the time was down to 3 seized bolts/clamps, one bolt I hadn't noticed, and a broken rubber bush (which took an hour at least to get off!). Also a lot is down to do my complete mechanical numptyship. Getting it back on was easy, about half an hour.
I'm trying to find a way of getting a sound file on the web somewhere, watch this space.
Gavin.

Just returned from business trip, to find my new exhaust in the garage next to the car. I will take some pictures later this week.

Thanks Tim, now all I need is somebody to fit it.

Gavin, just clocked that photo, you appear to have box missing there, could help explain the loudness
