Blimey chaps - you are a technical lot!

Re revs to 6500 Tas - somewhere on this site I think that chap from ACT says that the 390s and SEACs are semi race engines and will happily rev beyond 6500. Mine has gone beyond 7000 cos of throttle getting jammed and it has done no damage!

I wuz wrong!

cheers

They will rev even higher with no damage visible to the outside except that the oil pump distributor drive starts to wear and the internal bearings will get strained and wear that bit more. Most of the additional wear is internal and won't be noticed until it is too late.

The 390 and SEAC engines are a mixed bag from a build point of view. Some were close to race engines but the majority were tweaked road going engines and should be treated with a bit of care and respect otherwise they will wear out PDQ. 7000 rpm is not healthy or recommended especially as this is often way down the bhp/torque slope.

Cheers Steve!

The only reason mine has revved to 7000 is on one or two occassions solely when the throttle has jammed - see thread re new carpets! Lasted for a moment only, 1-2 seconds max, before unhooking caught throttle from beneath carpet. Carpet now in boot.

I understand the bit about falling off power cuves too, and often advise others about the uselessness of employing high revs.

I rarely go beyond 5000 anyway!

ACT do a very reasonably priced rev limiter, I've got one to fit to mine, cheaper than a new engine.
