Jag 4.0 v8 supercharged
Discussion
HI,
can any body help me. i have noticed a decent v8 4.0 supercharged jag engine for sale at the right money. Would the supercharger fit the rover v8, or is any one aware of this engine being fitted to a wedge. i am considering uprating and changing the standard v8 in my wedge that is now a little tired. any help on this will be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve
i used to have a jag xjr between 98 2001, the engine was truly terrific. 300+hp, and constant power from very low revs, mid range was awsome, the only problem with the jag was its hunger for rear p zeros, i got 7000 miles per set,at nearly £200 each corner, when doin 20000 miles a year ended up expensive, im guessing putting this engine would not be an easy job,
due to the phonominal torque of the engine jaguar mated it to an uprated borg warner geabox out of an american truck or something, as the normal jag one couldnt cope, it certainly would be very fun and expensive.
for cheap power why not go for a small block chevy, 300 + hp is a doddle in one of these and a full set of high comp pistons is cheaper than one piston for a xjr ( no joke)
tuning parts for chevy v8s are ridiculously cheap,
and youd have the most gorgeous exhaust note.
most people like to tune old 100 000 mile plus v8s cos which can be bought very cheaply even over here in uk,

Don't shoot me, thinking aloud. Couldn't start my car recently and that foxed me
Why the Jag engine? I went to the Jag factory for a tour once and the ones they were fitting in were huge. There are a good many RV8 builders, though a bit costly but worth it. Also if you have a 350 then there are a lot of other things to be done. Brakes, suspension etc. I traded up for more power but I did have a trailing arm 350.
On another note, if I had the space and know how I would love to dabble in the idea you propose.
Edited to add, Daniel, got 3000 out of my SO3 rears

Am I right in thinking there was a 2.0 litre supercharged RV8 made for the Italian market? Sure I read something about this once.
That was for the S. Not an RV8 though.
I thought it was a sleeved down RV8 for the Griffith but I could be losing my marbles. If it was for the S was it a ford V6 then?
Aaaaargh!
Oh no - someone else has thought of this idea. I must stop talking in my sleep!
The Jag is 370 BHP with loads of torque. Gearbox (5sp auto) is Mercedes Benz. Exhaust note is a little muted.
The only way to find out if it fits would be to measure it all over the place. Jag themselves may help you with measurements and weights. I wouldn't bother taking the supercharger off - it's all been set up and plumbed in for the Jag engine!
I shouldn't think it would weigh much more than the Rover V8 - most of any additional weight will be the supercharger.
Good luck with the project. I bags first ride in it!

Twas a sleeved down Rover V8 with a supercharger to get the cc under 2 litres to stop the car being taxed out of existance.

I haven't personally seen one of these engines, but somebody who has told me it was stroked down to two litres rather than sleeved. Apparently the stroke was about an inch, and it would rev like a bike engine!
Thanks for all the replies, will find out a bit more about the weight and dimensions of the jag engine before deciding. The car has allready had brake and suspension upgrades that would cope with this engine. If i can prove the engine will fit without any body modifications might just take the plunge and have ago at this project. will keep yopu informed.
