Wedge Webspace
Discussion
Hi chaps,
Sort of wedge related topic, perhaps somebody might be able to help - I am on the lookout for some reliable FTP webspace to host the TVRWedgePages Website.
Can anybody recommend a good, reliable (and cost effective) hosting company??. I have been looking and they all seem to be either 'fly by night' companies or want a fortune to rent the space.
I need around 50-100mb.
I was hosting the site on Freeserve, but since I have moved up to broadband I cannot get FTP access any longer.
Any thoughts??.

Great to hear from you Mike, look forward to the Wedgepages.
I've been using www.easily.co.uk, why not ask Ted what he uses for the holy of holy sites Pistonheads, it seems to work.
Best Wishes

Thanks fellas,
I will keep on looking, When I have found some I will put up a post of the change.
The URL will be the same I will just point it to the new space.
In the meantime if you got any ideas for improvements to the site, let me know and I can start working on them.
I was going to start uploading some video files of wedges I noticed Mcnud has got a few good ones on the Bristol TVRCC site...

Welcome back Mike,
If you need funding to get us the best site that our Wedges deserve, then why not look at making it into a non profit making club type thingy? I'm sure we could all chip in a one off contribution to get the space you need.Theres enough loyal Wedgers here I'm sure.
Personally speaking this site has saved me a heck of lot of garage time and money.
Stick me down for £20 its the least I can do for all the help I've had.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the compliment, the 'club thingy' I don't think would be a good idea especially charging people for the priviledge. Not that any contributions would go amiss mind you!.
But the whole point of starting the site in the first place was that there was hardly now't about for us 'lowly' wedge owners and I wanted to have a place where potential and existing owners could find info and share tips etc.
Not only that, the site is full of information and photo's submited by other owners and enthusiasts and not just by myself.
It does however become a bummer when I have to pay for things like Webspace etc to keep the site going - to offset that cost I was maybe thinking of making a charge for say something like classified advertising or something.
What does everybody think??.
The site does have high a high number of 'hits' per week from all over the world and I was hoping to catch one or two 'big' advertisers to pay for some banner advertising etc which would have paid for all sorts of upgrades to the site - but its all gone a bit quiet on that front.

Mike, I would be prepared to pay a subscription to assist with the Wedgepages. £20 per annum sounds fine to me.
I suppose the way to do it might perhaps be to arrange it so that only the 'general' stuff is available freely, the techie stuff being in a "members' area" and requiring the subscription?
That way Joe Public can pull himself daft over our cars, but only committed Wedgophiles get the really useful stuff
Ian
Mine's hosted through virtualnames.co.uk
Admittedly prob not as popular but......
Follow the obvious for prices, seems reliable, not too pricey, a range of options, you can get usage stat should you wish to and no I'm not on commission
cheers
Dave
PS Can't resist winding you all up.....I've just got back from a week in St Kitts where it was 30 degrees, sorry

I could go along with that.
I was gonna get this going - but of course it involves outlay again which I don't mind as long as I don't end up with loads of leftovers. My kids are going around in TVRWEDGEPAGES prototype t-shirts as it is!!!
To start with I was gonna get some window and bumper stickers made up.
Perhaps if people wanna make a donation they would get a free window and buper sticker and a mention in the Sponsors section??.
Comments????
