After many years of having 2 speakers wired up in the wedge, I have decided to put the front speakers in. Does anyone have front speakers in their wedge ? Where did you fit them ? What size speakers are they?

Im having my door cards re-trimmed in leather next week, and am thinking of mounting speakers in them before the trimmers get hold of the car.

I have 2 speakers in the seatbelt intertia reel covers and 2 in the doors. All four speakers are identical.

Ones in the doors are a bit of a waste of time as I can never hear them (in comparison to the ones either side of the rear shelf).

A previous owner had fitted a pair of HUGE speakers in the rear bulkhead. Lovely sound even top down at motorway speeds. I got shot of them because the magnets seriously intruded into the boot space and prevented the lid from being carried flat. Vertical roof plus spare wheel => enough boot space for a slimline briefcase!

I can relate to that! I have 2 kenwood speakers fitted in the doors the 2 rear ones plus these monster Kenwood speakers in the bulkhead. When I finally get the interior sorted the speakers will be gone and the holes fibre glassed back up again. I hardly ever fit the face on the stereo anway!

You have to watch out for water ingress into the doors: my 390 has 'drip rails' glassed inside above the speaker mounts to divert any water away from the cones. Even damp air will play havoc with undoped cones (not that there are many these days).

Jas

thought about doing the same as I have 6 behind me and nothing in front.

Was thinking of making somesort of box up to fit in the recess in the foot well, and some sort of tweeter between dash / pillars like modern cars have.

All though once new side exit exhaust fitted - arrives soon ! even mine might not be loud enough

I have a pair of Sony 5.5inch in the front doors, and a pair of Sony 6x9 in the rear bulkhead. For a head unit I have a sony MP3 unit, which means you can get a dozen albums on one cd, so no seperate changer required.

Thanks for the replies. I have two speakers where the seatbelts go through on the rear shelf, but with the rear shelf fully loaded (Le Mans etc) you cannot hear anything.
Its not that I dont love the Wedge sound, its just that the noise from the Rollbar( Transmission Whine) can sometimes be overpowering on very long journeys.

I have a 10 Disc MP3 Jukebox in the boot (CDR / CDRW) that holds about 1300 mp3's, and a tape head unit, but I would like to put a set of speakers up front to give some sort of sound. I have thought about the footwells, but also have been thinking about a floor mounted speaker below the seat (in a custom made box). I would like to put 2 speakers (4") in the doors to begin with, so I think I will have a play on SUnday, to see what would be involved, and if I have to make some spacers for it.

also forgot to add that since the rollbar was fitted, there is no room for a set of big speakers in the rear shelf.
