Over the weekend my local friendly car dealer Thornhill Cars seemed to loose most of it's stock. Usually some very nice cars there but noticed lately much cheaper cars on the forecourt. Then all of a sudden nearly all the cars have vanished. Theres literally about 5 cars left, all around 8 years old and under 3k. I'm wondering if they've gone bust, The showroom is empty, but seems open. A very nice Octavia VRS is still for sale in red. I can imagine a cash bargain.

I wonder where they put them all as usually, you can't get a cigarette paper between the cars at the LLantrisant site.

That Octavia vrs was £3k recently and is now down to £2.5
It's very clean bodywork and interior wise. However, it's on cheapo tyres and it has one of those 'we can't guarantee the mileage' stickers on the dashboard. Those 2 reasons put me off asking about paperwork and a test drive.

I would just like to clarify that Thornhill Cars is not going bust. All stock can be found at our other site Llantrisant Cars and online at Mod edit: No links. We have over 60 cars, and new stock arrving every day!

I had a swift look at a Fiesta Ghia they had there. Looks very nice but also wore a variety of mismatched or cheap and nasty tyres. They are not alone in this. Many cars in this category that I've been looking at over the weekend all seem to wear some mismatched tyres and/or ditchfinders which totally put me off the cars. I raised this issue with one dealer in Gwent where the rear tyres were almost dead and were totally different tyre tread patterns and horrible ditchfinders to boot and the response was they were low but both legal. My own view is cheap tyres smack of skimped maintenance and an overall lack of care. In this respect, I often find that more enthusiast cars tend to have better tyres on them to start with which offsets the higher price. I am also amazed by the dealers who seem to have no ide what their stock is. I went to see a car advertised on a website and they appeared confused when I asked about it and then, after some enquiries, said it was sold - again it hardly inspires confidence. When I sold motorbikes in the 80s, I knew the stock off by heart...sadly, still do.... It wasn't a multi-site dealer either.

I've heard that a Tesco Metro will be taking the plot. Bit of a shame as I drive past it every day and having a look to see if there were any interesting cars was far more fun than seeing people buy their loo roll will be.

Exactly, they had a few interesting cars there over the years but nothing that made me stop and go and take a look, which is probably why its closed down. /Off topic Dick, just realised your office is just over the road from mine.

When I bought my current car I had to drive all the way to Hull to put my MR2 in as part exchange while the WRX was on order or I would have lost at least a grand on the part exchange value.
When I arrived I found an empty lot and empty showroom! The sweat started straight away as I had already paid a deposit and now they wanted my car!
It turns out that they were having the showroom and lot renovated as above, it took the guy ages to convince me thought. He had to take me around all their offices and their other site before I gave them the keys!!

A few weeks ago I had my daughters Toyota serviced and M.O.T at Thornhill garage. The reason that all the cars have gone is do to the recesion with people not buying so many cars they have moved the cars to Llantrisant.
Still do M.O.T,servicing and tyres.
